Commentators are spot on about Philander IMO. He's just been swinging them away all day, and hardly any have swung in or nipped back. Don't know if it's because his arm is a bit lower or he's deliberately doing it or what, but he doesn't look as threatening. The unpredictability has gone.

Yeah I remember spraying flibberty about that. But I think he just looked unthreatening whereas he's looked threatening today, but just in between bowled short and wide.

Why is he doing this?

I don't think he's doing it on purpose; I think he's just lost his action a bit. Probably a result of the work he did for the UAE tour and his ODI recall. I highly doubt he's just decided to start bowling short outswingers from the hand.

Seriously he hasn't bowled anything like today, we do know though he has the ability to bounce back quickly.

I can't see how the commentators could say its not India's day UNLESS They belive this pitch is flatter than it normally is here. 300 has almost always been a competitive score and if they are 5 down at stumps (BIG IF) then its gotta be India's day. Not by a whole lot but it is, even with Kohli being out.

It's definitely flattened out a bit quicker than it usually does. What we saw in the first session usually lasts until after tea and it's often still doing a bit Day 2. Late Day 2 and Day 3 are always good for batting, especially if you like pace on the ball and can get set, but Day 1 is usually more consistently tricky than this.
