Not when they are Ganguly.

Again, that doesnt really apply to Ganguly. I'd take a tired Pathan over a fresh Ganguly with the ball any day of the week.
I wouldn't. Ganguly's been taking loads of wickets for Bengal lately and he contained well in the 6 overs he got. Dravid should've given him the ball, he would definitely be as dangerous as Agarkar at least .. can't argue with that.

A tired Pathan is of no use, and his Test career so far proves it. He can't take wickets. A fresh Ganguly can be a surprise package.

Now look at the Pak bowling options. Even Afridi and Malik are regular bowlers. Why not Ganguly?

This has to be one of the best coverages of a sub continental series. Thank God for having Imran and Nasser Hussain as experts. If Deano hd been there in place of Sanjay Manjrekar, It would have been perfect. There is Boycott still to come. Shows up our Gavaskars, Siddhus and Shastris big time.

Manjrekar is doing a great job.

Deano is a loud mouth and the combination of Manjrekar,Imran and Nasser is great. I wouldnt touch it.

I am impressed with the straght drive shows. Brilliant.

Best I have seen - much better than Boycott,Gavaskar and Bhogle combination.

Ha ha. Deano says some wacky stuff too. He said that whoever wins this series will be, in his mind, the #2 side in the world, which is far too prematue. Not to mention other crazy comments. He's funny, but no 'expert opinion' I'll tell you that.

I think Sanjay fits perfectly with Imran and Nasser on the panel. You need a host, and he does the job pretty well.

But you're right, this panel RUELS! Nasser + Imran as expert comments is absolutely awesome.

As opposed to Ganguly's brilliant test record with the ball...

HAHAHAH! Afridi rules so much. His interview with Ramjiz Raja was hilarious. Apparently he just walked up to Kamran Akmal in between overs and said "I'm going to try and hit six 6s off this next over". Kamran just replied "Good luck" and Afridi said "Okay thankyou..."

Then when Afridi was asked whether the Indian bowlers were afraid of him, he talked about how the pitch was very easy and stuff, and then replied with a smile "Maybe".

Lol what a champion. Nasser's reaction when he heard the interview was great. "I sometimes go to my partner and say I'm going to try and hit a 4 this over... he wants six 6s. He's on another world."

Yes Sanjay is a good enough host I suppose.

BTW, I have always admired Imran but Hussain is a revelation. Superb stuff from him.

I liked what he said that its so typical that all those who are not playing like Zaheer Kham etc certainly appear far better players than they maybe. We tend to elevate them when things go wrong with those that did get to play forgetting that this is after the event. or something to that effect.

How do you know an upcoming analysis of Ganguly is coming up on the blog? :D
The guy mentioned he was going to do Inzy, Ganguly and Lara after he wrote his article on Kallis.

When Nasser first came on to the Sky Sports team (I think it was for the Twenty20 domestic competition immediately following his retirement from playing) you could tell - he was born for it. A delightfully dry, self-depricating sense of humour, we could be seeing the 'new Richie'.

Yeah he is a revelation. And that comment was really true. I guess as a former English captain, he'd know all about it as its often a point in English cricket more so than Indian cricket of the past. The Indian team, batting order especially, has always been pretty much set since the mid-90s, except for a two revolving opener's spots, which Sehwag eventually solidified one as his own. The bowling hasn't been as easy to choose, but it hasn't been exactly tough with plenty of options all over the place. England on the other hand in the past have had plenty of calls that the wrong players were selected and those sitting on the sidelines would have been better choices. Funny how they do become all of a sudden better when they aren't playing.

That being said, I do think AA has to go in test cricket, but Zaheer wouldn't have made too much of a difference. I do think he would have been more threatening with the new ball though, and that would have been useful.

Unfortunately I didn't catch much of the match live so I missed most of the commentary that everyone is raving about. However I must say that Ten Sports is a breath of fresh air compared to Zee Sports. Finally subcontinental games can enjoy innovations like Hawkeye that have become standard elsewhere. And while the animations on Ten Sports were quite annoying I don't remember seeing anything as superannoying as the Nokia ads on Zee Sports.

Justtool - Which country you live in ?? Which Country Ravi Shastri played for ? Did you ever question your Banglorean/Mumbaikar/Delhites for shouting Shastri Hai Hai ?? Were you in the stadium when the chennai Crowd booed Sourav Ganguly or suffering from Rataondhi ?

No I dont know that Ganguly's selection was not on his current form, but I guess you do have some insider information, so why not curse your Maharashtrian BCCI Chief or Gujrati Chairman of selector etc etc....Why did they select Ganguly ? But no you will conveniently ignore all that and continue your diatribe against Bengalis and Kolkatans.

As for why Ganguly drop out of Nagpur Test - How about INJURY. Why did SRT drop out of 3 tests against Australia ? BTW, why did Vidarbha cricket association refuse to cut the grass despite Ganguly asking for it ? Why did Dravid miss out the test match against SL, Why did Sehwag miss Kotla test ?

If you have proof then put up else just stop your nonsense here and watch the game.
Sanz, I can see where you are coming from, but it is really obvious that most of the fans who were holding protests about Sourav's non inclusion and most of those who jeered the Indian side were from Kolkata or at least Bengal in large. Sure, it may NOT have been the majority of the Bengalis or Kolkatans even, but those who did all that were mostly from Bengal and Kolkata.

And secondly, booing a single player is different from booing your OWN team as a whole. And thirdly, there may have been instances when folks from other cities (and again, they may not have been the majority of the fans, only a few) doesn't mean what happened in Kolkata was right. Juz because Mumbai guys did it as well doesn't mean what happened in Kolkata was okay. It was honestly disgraceful and those idiots who were protesting were only bringing in a bad name to the (majority) fans who have conducted themselves well and acted on logic rather than passion.

BTW, if Jhunjhunwala gets into the side, do you guys think all the "Ganguly fixation" will come to an end?

What do you reckon the odds are for the most runs scored in a Test match if current form continues?

744 in 2 days and some pretty big hitters kicking about for India. Should easily crash through the 1000 mark towards end of tomorrow, especially if Sehwag gets in and gets a big score!

What is the record for this? It would be remarkable if they broke it in this test considering the number of overs lost due to bad light.

So far I seem to have been wrong about batting becoming more difficult for India. I hope it stays that way. In fact ideally I would like India to bat for the remaining three days and become the first team to score 1000 runs in a test innings. :D
