Another game ruined, and NZ probably lucky not to go 2-0 down.8:23 pm Abandoned. Game has been called off. Now that's that.
Sweet!! really hoping for a full game, and to see ryder and McCullum unleash...It is a miracle, but apparantly the forecast for Christchurch on Sunday is good.
Expect a black rain cloud to hover over Jade Stadium on Sunday whilst the rest of Christchurch is baved in sunshine.
Yeah Watling would be a pretty good choice, would much rather see Jesse Ryder perform though. And in time I think he will, he has all the natural talent he just has to settle down abit.IF (IF) Ryder was given the chop in ODIs, I'd probably back Watling to get the gig.
Tbh, if Ryder's international career follows his domestic one, he's going to be a test/20/20 specialist. His List A record isn't great, but its only 15 ODIs, I'd give him a few more. He hasn't been absolutely atrocious like Flynn at them.
Could not agree more. Move Ryder at 5 where the ball doesn't move as much and he can play his square shots.I could see why he opened before Guptill was in the mix but I really think he should be going back down the order now.
Yeah so do I, but I think it's worth moving him to get Ryder down the order a bit. Even if Ryder batted three himself, or four with Taylor at three, I think it'd work a lot better.Plus we'd be having Taylor at three, I like him at four better tbh.
You don't want a fatty in the middle overs of ODIs though. It's bad for the whole running-between-wickets thing. If he's being moved down I'd want him to be part of a floating batting order, maybe coming in ahead of Elliot depending on how late in the innings it is or the general situation.I really don't know why Ryder still opens the batting. Sure, he does it domestically, but his ODD record is terrible anyway so it's hardly a great endorsement. He has minimal footwork but has a good eye, good hands and all the shots which makes him ideally suited to batting around 5 or so. The new ball's obviously going to exaggerate the limitations in his footwork.

Inzy was a pretty good number 5 (and 4) for Pakistan...You don't want a fatty in the middle overs of ODIs though. It's bad for the whole running-between-wickets thing. Yeah would like Ryder at first drop at least. I don't fancy Ryder at all as a pinch hitter, he is a gifted strokemaker more than an out and out bludgeoner and when he tries to force shots that aren't on, he gets out.As it stands, you're opening the batting with a pinch-hitter trying to bat through the innings and a middle order batsman with no footwork and then sending an opener in at #3. It just doesn't make any sense.
He was talking about McCullum as the pinch hitter.Yeah would like Ryder at first drop at least. I don't fancy Ryder at all as a pinch hitter, he is a gifted strokemaker more than an out and out bludgeoner and when he tries to force shots that aren't on, he gets out.
