That while you were were criticizing his record in South Africa only one batsman from India/Pakistan and Sri Lanka have a better record. What is exactly the point you are trying to make? The players below him Jaya and Attapattu are very mediocre batsmen outside subcontinent.
Averages can be hugely misleading in such a case, particularly because, you are judging a batsman to be the second best ever player in SA despite him not having scored a single century there. That while you were were criticizing his record in South Africa only one batsman from India/Pakistan and Sri Lanka have a better record.
Making Laxman the second most successful ever in South African conditions.
Now if we turn our eye to English conditions where does he turn up?
(qualification of 400 runs)
Where he is 13th overall.
One innings proves absolutely nothing. The only time Laxman played in 'swing friendly' Brisbane, he made a 75 and 24*.
It is not one inning though. He is good in South Africa, England and Australia and hasn't been tested in New Zealand decently. One innings proves absolutely nothing.
Nor have almost any other player from the sub-continent.Averages can be hugely misleading in such a case, particularly because, you are judging a batsman to be the second best ever player in SA despite him not having scored a single century there.
And 13th overall (among subconti batsmen?) in England is not exactly the hallmark of greatness.
He is exceptional in Australia. But then, grounds there hardly are bowler friendly. It is not one inning though. He is good in South Africa, England and Australia and hasn't been tested in New Zealand decently.
Wrong.He is mediocre in SA.
He is mediocre in England.
Irrelevent.He is bull**** in NZ.
Dravid is on 12, and a century this year makes it 13.Nor have almost any other player from the sub-continent.
On an unrelated note looking through Laxmans records, he has scored a century every year for the last 9 years. Which is looking like an un equalled feat in modern cricket. What a guy. If he gets one in 09 that'll make it 10.
No, right. And NZ record is hardly irrelevant.Wrong.
Irrelevent.
Yeah I thought he might be the only guy who could be edging him out but his page wasn't loading for me for some reason.Dravid is on 12, and a century this year makes it 13.
No.No, right. And NZ record is hardly irrelevant.
Jerome Taylor ahead of Ntini and Anderson.Best new ball Test bowlers in the world:
Steyn
Johnson (Lee)
Sharma
Edwards
Anderson
Khan
Ntini
I'd say a fully fit on form Lee would give Australia the best opening pair (possibly inc. Clark too)
Then I'd say SA and Ind are about equal.
We should get O'Brien to open the bowling, would do better than Martin.
Bowls first change usually though? The only reason I omitted him. Edwards-Powell is the usual new ball partnership IIRC. Edwards-Taylor could actually challenge the other pairings listed though. Too bad they're the only good bowlers West Indies have got.Jerome Taylor ahead of Ntini and Anderson.
Yeah seam is more apparent in South Africa then swing. Just have to watch the current series in the Republic to see that.Combined averages favour Laxman. If RSA is the standard, Tendulkar and others can't play swing bowling either. You are just picking holes for the sake of it. Any ways, it is England where it swings most, not South Africa or New Zealand.
Except that I've data to support my theory.No.
Going around in circles, we better end this. Take care.

Took new ball against England (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th tests) and didn’t he take new ball against New Zealand?Bowls first change usually though? The only reason I omitted him.
