Cricketer Of The Year
Only, he averages 42 in first class cricket in his first couple of seasons, has shown recently that he's managed to adapt and be able to start scoring consistently in T20 domestic cricket for the Knights and only has 18 Limited A matches to call on, so this "consistently averaged under 30" makes me laugh, compare anyone bar Williamson in the current side at the same point in their domestic careers and he'll rate favorably. And to be honest, I'd take an average of 27 versus Guptill's inflated average of 38.
You'd take an average of 27 (in List A) over Gup's *inflated* (ie innings played by him, using some bizarre exclusion method you have going) average of 38 which is largely owing to ODI innings'. I'll put my cue in the rack then, there's hardly any point going on.

Yeah, even if you bizarrely insist on ignoring all of Guptill's hundreds, his ODI average is still on the right side of 30. That must surely count for more than an average of 27 in a lower level of competition. Surely.

Again, compare Guptill's domestic stats as a 22 yr old versus Mitchell then come back to me.

guptill is poor agribusiness. that is basically the issue. theyve produced a couple of promising players and now theyre all uppity and trying to emulate the southern irrigation fund of the previous century.

This is odd logic. You can't pick the age at which your chosen player looks best and then compare exclusively from that point.

Didn't he average like 37 anyway?

even guptills blocky adjusted odi average is still bigger than the gap between that edmunds average and mitchells domestic average lol

We all actually like Daryl Mitchell a lot. He's going to be a very good player.

Long term he could replace Taylor as test number 4 in about 5 or so years.

I hope it's a little further away than that. Would love an established player to stick around beyond 34-35 for once.

Will Young has that spot wrapped up ftr.

Surprising that Guptill averaged so highly in List A - I must be thinking of his first class record, where he was first selected to New Zealand with an average under 30 and hardly any centuries.

Still, horribly inconsistent and a mental head case, Australia would sack him in a heart beat, even if he was considered talented.
