It's far from panic stations yet, despite the overwhelming NZ negativity in this thread. We're very reliant on the second new ball for wickets though.

Seriously? I'm not sure how anyone who's watched a lot of NZ over the years could say that? Of the top of my head I can think of 5-6 occasions in which we've blown massive leads in the 3rd innings and then failed to bowl sides out chasing relatively high totals. Cynical as it sounds, when we were 2-down early yesterday I sent a text to a mate saying we'll be rolled for 100 and India will win by 5 wickets. :p Should have put my money where my mouth is.
Losing after a 300 run lead is beyond extreme though.

Hasn't happened yet though. Nz still alive. India looking good.

Cut Sodhi some slack.

He hasn't bowled all that badly in this match barring those three bad deliveries which he incidentally happened to have bowled within one over to the best player of spin bowling in the opposition team.
You look at his record and the general record of the other spinners around the country though. They struggle to take wickets even at domestic first-class level, so why we feel the need to automatically pick one at Test level is what I question when there are plenty of other seam options who have way better records and would be more threatening. The variety in the attack can be added by Williamson.

come to think of it all players born in Delhi have done well in this test match. Good to see India compete though, even though we lost the test series in SA and still might lose this test, it's good to see India fight it out, much easier to take losses when we compete as compared to those ENG/AUS tours where we gave up so fast.

Not Terrible
Southee bowled the best by miles, Wagner bowled well. Boult was wayward. Anderson was toothless. Sodhi relieved the pressure.

Mate wouldn't matter if the lead was 400, no team can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like NZ can. I've seen this same scenario (generally speaking) so many times over the years. We freeze with the bat in the 2nd innings, not having a clue how to approach it and then we run out of patience with the ball and start panicking & searching for wickets. There's an awful inevitability about it that you can see in the field and in the body language. You really need to have watched NZ over the years as often as I to understand this 'oh no, here we go again' feeling. I think it haunts our players in the same way. It's a slippery slide.

Santner with the call up for the next test obvs
He'd do a better job than this ****.

Don't be utterly ridiculous. Most of us agree he wasn't ready for this series against India, but to say he should never play again is ludicrous giving he clearly has natural ability. Thank goodness you're not in a position to be able to make such absurd decisions.
Natural ability to do what? Land the occasional spinner that is either too short or too slow in turn to make the batsman think? His action is horrible, he comes straight over the top rather than spinning up through a lower arm, means he'll never get great drift or purchase and also means he's far easier to pick than most spin bowlers. His best hope is to turn into a batsman who bowls a bit, because his bowling just isn't good enough. Mark my words, he'll never average less than 40 for NZ with the ball.

Thing is, out of the spin bowlers who currently play every available first class match for their province - Sodhi has the worst average and one of the worst strike rates. There is no reason for him to be playing for NZ and to be honest, I wouldn't have him in the ND side. I think M Santner, Walker and even Boult are better players.

ICC Cricket 360 showing Javagal Srinath eating breakfast.
Most ridiculous show.

"This week on ICC360 we catch up with former Zimbabwe quickie Everton Matambanadzo to see what he's up to in life after cricket"

*cross to a travel agency where he's sitting down talking to a client"

What? Santner was once a promising bowler but mucked around with his action and if he's going to make it now it'll be as a batsmen. Walker would rather get on the piss and Jono Boult is just turd sandwhich bad. Sodhi shouldn't be playing test cricket but your having a laugh if you think any of those other players are better bowlers.
