Coversion rates aren't that important in ODIs imo, atleast not for middle order batsmen. As long as you contribute a decent number of runs each game at a decent clip, you're worth a spot in the side. Bell does that pretty well.

Kevin Pietersen

The ratio is quite misleading for middle-order batsmen in ODIs. Pietersen, for example, was good at converting starts to 100s. But he batted in middle-order, so had to try to score quicker during end overs. [and get out / remain not out for 83 in 84 balls, depending on the situation]
He did it 9 times in 136 odd matches, umm, not saying your points aren't valid, but hard to say that's a good conversion rate.

Anyway, Moeen does well down the order so we put him at 3.

Does he, does he really?

Look to me, if you are playing in an ODI set-up with the bat, you need to be contributing massively well in on or three disciplines. Average, s/r or contribution in the field. Bell doesn't contribute in one, and is just average in the other two. Same with Cook.

Another great start then. Glad I not watching and following on cricinfo.

Then again only seen about 20 overs of the entire series.

England one-day team is just too inexperienced I'm afraid. Don't forget their successful ODI players in the last 3 years - Trott, KP and Swann are no longer with the team hence the struggle.

Admittedly I havent watched much of his ODI career and stats in ODIs can be even more deceptive than in tests, but on the surface, average of 37 at 76 SR atleast looks decent. I'm not saying he's essential to the side or anything, but he's hardly terrible.

Is that decent though, what sides would he be getting in, in World cricket with that? I dunno, in the end if we're going to move on we need something better. Yet let's face it we're not moving anywhere, but back.

He sucked for the first 70/80-odd matches of his career. Averages more like 44 at a SR of 82 in the last 3 years.

44 Really? He's been batting in the top 3 too, 82 isn't brilliant. he's just average, and seems to be regressing to how most of his career has gone now. Purple-patch I reckon.

Yes, because if they all had another 100 caps they'd suddenly be able to hit every ball for four.

It has virtually nothing to do with experience and everything to do with being ****e.

I'm not being original here. but I just think it's ground zero here with england in ODI's we just need totally different players with a different mind-set. I agree with Scaly, nothing to do with experience, particularly if that experience is jaded and awful.

Bell and Cook should retire and concentrate on Tests. That's just for starters.

Surprised he hasn't brought Jadeja yet. Pitch is taking turn, might not be as straight forward a run chase as the previous ones

EDIT: that was a gun over from Ashwin, really mixing it up well.
