Dravid, perhaps, due to his form. (but his form in the first 2 tests was scratchy too).

Ganguly, based on the last 12 months - it makes as much sense to drop him from ODI's as it does to drop him from tests. (The slow batting argument is weak, his strike rate in 2007 is about what it is through his ODI career). Ganguly+Tendulkar opening were really producing in the ODI's, I thought.
Perhaps the slow-batting argument has been used by some to justify Ganguly's exclusion, but it doesn't make too much sense to me either. For me, it boils down to two things: creating a strong fielding unit where it really matters (in ODIs, as opposed to tests where catching is more important) and giving the next generation exposure before it's too late. Besides, the transition to test cricket is far, far greater than that to one-day cricket and that's why Dravid and Ganguly are somewhat expendable in the shorter form but not at all in the longer form.

The Wheel is Forever
Doesn't make sense to drop someone averaging 44.28 in ODIs over the last year. BCCI are ridiculous, and so is Dhoni if he wanted it. I believe in giving the captain what he wants, but Dhoni is a total knob if he wanted that.

But, the crazy Youth At All Costs Brigade got what they want, and I bet they'll be clamoring for some experience after India crashes for 123 with Tendulkar 107*.

I'm selfishly happy though, because it may mean Dravid and Ganguly can go on longer in Tests - which is the only thing I care about. But if I was Dravid or Ganguly, I'd be so completely fed up with the BCCI (and Dhoni). An idiot like Dhoni who wouldn't know proper cricket if it bit him in the ass deciding what happens to players who actually have something called class at the highest level (assuming its true that Dhoni asked for this, if not, than never mind). That's India for you I guess - let's see what happens.

And Gambhir simply cannot play at this level. I cannot believe he repeatedly gets chances when there is zero chance that he'll be remotely good at the international level.

That's because his good technique in defence doesn't transfer over when playing shots on tracks with more bounce than the average Indian track. This problem's been there for quite some time as well.
But its not been bounce that has repeatedly gotten his wicket in this series.

Cant wait for the Adelaide test. Australia should be fired up to win the series but India will be wanting a draw badly. With Haydos back I think we can win.

Ganguly averages 44.28 in ODIs over the last year but have you considered his fielding and running between the wickets? You can have your view on the tradeoff there but at least consider the other side of the story. Did you ever consider the need to start the transition at some point? Do you want Sachin, Sourav and Rahul to retire together and find our team suddenly screwed because we didn't prepare for the situation early enough? Just keep all of that in mind. By the way, here's the squad that I would have selected:

Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid, Yuvraj, Badrinath, Raina, Sharma, Uthappa, Dhoni, Pathan, Kumar, Bhajji, Chawla, RPS, Ishant, Sreesanth

Getting past selection issues, we've got eight matches in this tournament so that's a great opportunity to try out as many people as possible. Hopefully Dhoni rotates everyone instead of adopting an XI and sticking to it.

Gilly's last Test match in Australia?

Averaging just 22 this Series.

And you'd think they'd want Haddin in there well before Ashes 2009, the next big frontier.

I think Haddin is already a better batsman.

Surely we should discuss the ODI squad issues in the actual CB Series thread.

Still ****ting bricks that India managed to beat Australia in a test hey?

Considering you support NZ, I find it incredibly ironic you complain about selectors, considering some of the **** selections NZ have made in the past 12-24 months.

Nup, no way will they drop Gilly before he retires. He'd have to be averaging less than 20 and dropping sitters for a year before that happens. It's not just form either; the Aussies are a notorious boys club and those who are 'in', hard to prise them out. Aussie selectors don't drop 'keepers until they're an embarrassment, really.

I guess the long and short of it is that whilst not at his best, he's not doing badly enough to be dropped yet either.

I think Haddin is already a better batsman.
On form, sure. He's keeping just as well as Gilly right now too. I just think the occasional big knock (such as his Perth ton last year) and reasonable form with the gloves (the one bad day in Sydney notwithstanding, of course) keeps the selectors happy.

Ironic avatar considering the above somewhat unhinged rant.

I have no objections against NZ selectors! They did tremendous job. With the kind of resources they have, they did good job...Consider India , with the kind of resources they have, they are doing bad job... again its my opinion
