I like McGain for his control and his temprament, he is nowhere near in talent when compared to MacGill or Warne neither does he get big turn but still he has got a good cricketing head on his shoulders (judging from his interviews) and he looks like a pretty decent spinner to me so he could an option if Hoggy doesn't go to well, his action though is bit like one of a part-timer!

Thunderstorms today, and looks like tomorrow and Saturday won't be much better. Hopefully this doesn't cause India too much harm heading into Boxing Day, but I have my doubts. Definitely not enough preparation :(

Given that India agreed to just 1 tour game, they deserve nothing better than this. India have only themselves to blame to go into the first test like this. Irritating as a fan but then, where India is concerned, money is most important, not the flourishing of cricket.

Came back from the game a little while back, didn't see a lot (had to leave soon after Tendulkar was out, but still managed to get caught in the floods). Tendulkar looked very good while he was at the crease, was looking awesome in the nets as well. Laxman was a bit unlucky to get out like that, and Dravid was looking nice and solid. I was impressed by Ishant Sharma when he was bowling in the nets as well. Saw Wasim Akram at the ground, was he commentating Pratyush?

There is really no reason at all why Dravid shouldn't be able to open in test matches. In fact, despite where he has batted all his career, I've always felt he was a "natural" opener so to speak - I think he has the potential to be the best opening batsman in the world.

As it has been noted, this has been tried before. It really wasn't a horrible failure though - he scored two centuries in thirteen innings averaging 33.54. It doesn't look great at first glance, but when you take into considering that it was first tried in the late ninties and was a genuine failure at the time, it looks a bit better of late. In the last proper attempt he had at it - against Pakistan in 2005/06 - he scored 265 runs in 6 innings at 66.25 and notched up both of his two centuries opening.

There has never been much question over his technical capabilities to deal with it - only with his accustomed role and value to the team. In the past, the argument that he should not be risked in an unfamiliar position as India's best batsman was a valid one, as was the point that the next best opening option probably wasn't any worse than the next best middle order option anyway. However, Dravid's form over the last twelve months has not been great at all and he probably wouldn't even make the middle order on form alone. Add to that the fact that Karthik has failed of late, the fact that Sehwag is in all sorts of problems and the improvement as a batsman of Yuvraj Singh - Dravid opening makes all the sense in the world. I really hope he succeeds there, even as an Australian, as the quality of openers around the world is not great at the moment and I really think he could be high class.

Whatever it takes!!!
- Jaffer looked bad. Wasn't able to cope with whatever swing was on offer and probably the kookabura so early on in the tour. Hopefully it is just adjustment problems but don't know whether he will be able to make the adjstments so fast into the tests.

- Tendulkar looked awesome before inside edging it to the wicket.

- Dravid looking good.

- Ganguly is playing his strokes (a lot of which is hit or miss at the moment), probably trying to hit himself into a bit of good nick.

- Happy with Sehwag being excluded.
The ball that got Tendulkar out, it was a no ball, btw.

Both Slats and Chappeli are a part of the Channel 9 commentary team so i don't know how would they manage to work with ESPN-Star at the same time.

Tendulkar plays on for 19 as he tries to force one off the backfoot off Wise.

He had already hooked Wise for a fierce hook over square leg.

and immediately on getting out, he went back to the nets to get some practice that he missed out on in the middle.

and then came the rain

It's good to hear Tendulkar was in good touch and Dravid and Ganguly hopefully got a bit of useful batting practice. Still I don't have much hope for the first test. After the easy pickings of the Pakistan series this will be steep rise in the difficulty level for our batsmen. At least I hope they will get enough time in the middle in the first test to put up a decent show in the rest of the series.

Our bowling is a lost cause and I will be pleasantly surprised if we can dismiss Australia for less than 400 even once. Wouldn't be too surprised if Australia make more than 500 in each of their first innings.

The ground was excellent. India's batting woes will not be new from now in this aussie tour. Expecting Australia to beat India emphatically. Looking forward to that. All the best Ponting!
