If he's going to bat like that the least he can do is look for quick singles. Scoring 5 off 66 balls simply increases the pressure on the guy at the other end to score runs. It was a very ordinary batting display from someone who has been raved about. If you are that good you shouldn't be struggling to find a way to turn over the strike. The fact is that he did open, whether he's an opener or not, and as a result he has a role to play. Comparing his batting to someone else who also failed isn't really that reassuring. I'd love to see Dravid bat well, but only he knows what he was doing in this test.
Agreed. I never said no Dravid shouldn't be recieving any criticism at all, cuz yes he deserves his fair share. BUT, it's people laying majority of the blame on him is what is pissing me off, when each and every batsman is to blame for our spineless batting display. No single performance (apart from Tendulkar in the first innings) was praiseworthy.

That's true...I thought Ganguly batted steadily in both innings too. It was a pretty poor effort in both innings though overall. Yuvraj hasn't even looked like a batsman yet, neither has Dhoni.

Uh...Didn't you tip an Indian win after Day 1?
It was interesting to hear that it was the Indian Cricket Board's decision to delay their arrival in Australia to squeeze in the test series with Pakistan thus giving them next to no warm up games. It was a strange decision.

Yeah disappointing to see both Laxman and Ganguly throw their starts away. But really at the end of the day it was our lack of preparation and brilliant bowling backed up by top class fielding that restricted us to less than 200 in both innings.

Laxman's another I didn't think of...he looked good until he got out in the first innings.

Man of the match should be Matty Hayden, made batting look really easy when most of the other batsmen struggled.
Yep, well said. Let's remember these times when someone rings out the flat track bully non-sense.

I still think the Indian batting could come good - Ganguly, Laxman and Tendulkar all looked good. I don't think Yuvraj is good enough though. India's bowling wasn't bad - at least they applied themselves well. However they just don't have the team (and team being the operative word) to threaten Australia over the course of five days and Australia sustains pressure so well they're doing well to survive even a session without loss. Then there's things like their ground fielding and running b/w wickets which are awful.

As for Aus, I think Johnson's last spell was perhaps crucial to him keeping his position. I'd still pick Tait though.

The only problem I have with picking Tait is that you'd never build pressure like the aussies did on that wicket as he spray them around too much. On the other hand, he's just as likely to hit middle stump as he is the square leg umpire.

Heard Maxwell on ABC saying it was not a good pitch too slow and the batsman could not play their shots. What game were you watching Jim?

What? if the team batting first can't score 500 at 4 an over it is not a good pitch:dry:

Maybe we should have pitches like the last Indian visit? now that was a boring series

To be fair though, Jim Maxwell's an idiot who has no idea about the game of cricket.

Mate, even if we win 4-0 he'll say "You just watch out Australia, it'll be 4-0 in India!". He's an optimist of nearly idiotic proportions.
Haha and for some reason you're cranky no matter what. When Aus lose you're mad, when they win you're mad. You seem to throw a trantrum no matter what. It's probably that time of the month for you.

To be fair, I don't think that's what Jim wants either as he's actually been one of the most vocal critics of pitches being prepared to constantly favour batsman. I'm divided on the pitch. I hate the fact Melbourne now has drops-ins and this pitch was too slow and didn't make for attractive stroke play (plus the outfield was far too slow but that was down to weather I guess) but I did like the fact batting was challenging and we weren't getting those 500+ scores I detest.
