Personally, I don't think Akhtar could do diddly-squat to the Aussie lineup with the kind of attitude you're describing..
The same Akhtar who when the last time the two sides met in Australia he destoryed them single handed....

I know they played each other in Pakistan more recently but I can't remember if he was playing and how he actually went, that can be on my to-do-list for tommorow ;)

I like his kindaa attitude, he bowls to hurt the batsman rather than planning how to get XYZ opener out.

That's not very nice. I hope you will one day face a bowler with a similar attitude and learn from it.

Notice I said, "with that kind of attitude." :P

I don't think he went out trying to hurt aussie batsmen as much as he did trying to win the game for his team. The former is just disgusting.

Though those 2 caught behind decisions could cost Australia the series! Then all of the sudden India will be labled the best team in the world. Which in my opinion isnt right!

I know Indians will run around calling themselves the best, thats not what I'm worried about. I'd actually stop watching cricket but I want Tugga to leave on a win, a comprehensive win!!!

Those Indians are acting foolishly and you are right now to worry about that.

If you were worried about Waugh leaving on a loss, then *that's* your problem, not the fact that Indians will call themselves the best side in the world. It's an understandable problem indeed. I can see how it would be very disappointing for an Aussie fan to see one of their favorite players leave on a losing note, especially after having carved such a legacy.

But oh well. I don't care. :P

I totally agree with Chris here, there is noway in the world India can claim to be the best in the world just because (IF) they beat Australia in the series.

Australia have been unstopable for the best part of 10 years, and for India to win one series and claim to be the best is madness.... Just look at this year they lost in NZ, Drew to NZ in India it's hardly a stunning record.

Australia this year have won everything they beaten the WI's, Zim, Bang and won the World Cup and could beat India.

I agree India are certianly improving very nicely but they aren't the world;s best just yet, they need to consistanty bowl sides out and at the momment the attack is just to hot and cold.

Mind you I ain't speaking outta frustration, the whole series OZ bowlers have let us down, Williams is one hell of a bowler - reason his attitude, the guy doesn't give a damn whether its Tendulkar or Dravid!! I love that attitude.

We all say King Viv was the best bat in the past thirty yrs b'coz of his aggressive approach, his front foot hooks on fast bowlers so why can't we appreciate an aggressive bowler like Akhtar who gives a damn about reputations and rankings!

YEs Dizzy has got one!!! I feel a lot better:D :D :D :D

Stop trying to rub it in, Rich. We know how good Australia is and how "mediocre" India is.

It'll have been a great series nonetheless.

There's a difference between indifference to reputation and the desire to hurt someone.

Too bad Sehwag's gone :(

You gotta believe me on this one - whenever I've bin pessimistic OZ does well! dunno why but it always happens. I've lived in Arizona for 6 yrs and two yrs ago I was cursing the diamondbacks at Arizona ball park in Pheonix, I had painted boards cursing our team and guess what the Diamondbacks won the World Series it always works!!!:D :D

It certainly has been a great series and iam a complete netrual here, I have nothing against either side... iam not trying to rub anything in all iam saying is for those that feel that India will be the best side in the world just because they might beat Australia (India Captain has stated this already) is IMO untrue.

Like I said in my previous post, India are building a very solid side and in a short period if they can keep this up they will be a very very good side. But win or lose IMO Australia have the right to call themselves the best side in the world.

The Indian captain did not state that.

But if we can win this series then we definitely can be number one
In typical, non-defeatist attitude he gave himself, and his team a pat on the back, for a job well done. I think there's absolutely nothing impulsive about that. We can be (as in, we have the potential to be) the best side in the world, not "we will be."

I'm sick and tired of Lee, why doesn't he bowl like the 2nd fastest bowler in the world. Look at Shoaib Akhtar he doesn't bother himself on where to bowl unlike Lee who's busy bowling on the off stump etc. Why doesn't he simply bowl the brains out of a batsman. If he has difficulty getting Chopra out then what about other openers like Smith, Gayle etc! this is disgraceful. This also tells us how big of a star McGrath was - never ever could these have scored 100 for no loss had MCGrath bin there...Dizzy whom Tugga named the best bowler in the world is a disgrace to the game, the guy is so busy bowling on the off stump...why doesn't he bowl straight at batsmans body like Akhtar and Sami do!
You sound more realistic. McGrath is/was OZ's best bowler. Pace alone cannot beat a class batsman even if it is 160 km/hr. Akthar tries his reverse swing to take most of his wickets( mostly "bowled" wickets he gets). In between he has some deadly slow balls...so Akthar is not only express but also a clever class bowler. Akthar alone can destroy even the best team, but lee has to prove it. Probabaly after Mcgrath retires , Lee may become more sharper...

I draw you attention here

India 'can be number one'

India captain Sourav Ganguly said his side's historic Test win against Australia in Adelaide could be a stepping stone to greater things.
"I said before that we are the second best side in the world," said Ganguly after Australia were beaten by four wickets on Tuesday.

"But if we can win this series then we definitely can be number one."

"This was our Test. I think we played better than them in the last three days of the Test and deserved to win."

It was the first time in 22 years India had won a Test in Australia and only their seventh victory in the last 69 matches away from home.

Ganguly is well aware of that fact.

He went on: "We are almost unbeatable at home but we haven't played well overseas."

They may not look like it from the outside but they're pretty tough characters

Sourav Ganguly

"We've started to play well over the last two years but we also knew we had to do something special to beat this side [Australia]."

India seemed to have no hope of winning the match after Australia racked up a daunting first innings of 556 before reducing the tourists to 85-4.

But they turned the match around with a 303-run partnership by vice-captain Rahul Dravid (233) and VVS Laxman to get within 33 runs of Australia before Ajit Agarkar took 6-41 to skittle the home team for 196.

Ganguly added: "There are some characters in the side, they may not look like it from the outside but they're pretty tough characters."

Ganguly expects the Australians to respond with some tough cricket of their own.

"We have to lift our game, this is a four-Test series not a three-Test series," he said.

"We know that they're going to come hard at us but also we know that we can beat them."

India, in a similarly unlikely performance, came back from the dead to win the second Test at home two years ago before taking the series 2-1.
