***Official*** India in Australia 2014-5

Cricketer Of The Year
Johnson's pace has been down though I think he's been less effective this year simply bcos India has played him better than England. They've been especially good at nullifying the threat of his short pitched bowling with Vijay showing ability to avoid it while Kohli and Rahane have hooked and pulled him brilliantly.

Sharma is a surprise and on the little I've seen of him would have favoured Rahane as the VC. His ability to temper Kohli in their 262 partnership showed leadership and calmness.

Harris plays for mine. I think this test is really important if only to help stop India's advance. If they win the test and lose 2-1 they would be far in advance being competitive on our grounds than we would be on theirs. We are down our best batsman and I can't see why we should do without a premier pace bowler if he's fit to play.

Surely Agar is a prank but I'm still waiting for the selectors to explain the joke. If we are going in sans Clarke and Harris and including Agar then we must insist on India playing Karn.

It doesn't help Johnson that the fielders are dropping catches off his bowling. I feel Johnson just needs a rest. There are some spells where he is bowling seriously well and with good rhythm but if it ultimately results in a chance being dropped then he will struggle a bit because he's the strike bowler who operates in short rapid bursts and it's always hard for him to be both wicket-taking and miserly at his pace. I do agree India has played him a lot better than England have though.

This test is important simply because every test match is important. That, and given the fact that this ground has emotional aspects attached to it (it was where Hughes fell), I would be extremely pissed if Australia try something new just for the sake of it. Expecting 3-0, hopefully a drubbing, and nothing less.

Shastri bullish about India future? More like Shastri trying to cover his ass. I hate this guy so much; I saw him once at Bombay airport and he walked like he had the crabs. Diseased looking wretch.

India have a better test future without Dhoni as captain, that's for sure.

I think Kohli will have an aggressive style and expectation put on his players, I also hope it lifts the best out of his batting as he's really not played to potential at test level. He needs Dhawan and Pujara to refind their touch alongside himself and Rahane and then he's only a good pace bowler away from a pretty complete team.

Probably Watson. Burgey made the decent point that as the vc, Haddin's spot in the side becomes more solidified than previously as they need his experience. Welcome to the forum by the way

Watson is in a strange position. I doubt he'll be dropped for a pure batsman unless the bowling attack drastically changes. MMarsh seems to be the chosen replacement at this point so I guess when they feel comfortable with him being a fixture in the team I expect watson to be dropped/ retire. Short of discovering a Smith-like vein of form I'm not sure a reasonable amount of runs can really save Watson. I wouldn't be suprised to see them play both for a few tests when Marsh comes back tho.

It feels like they've stuck with Watson forever as well. You're probably right concerning Marsh also

Watson is probably the best fifth bowler option they have though. Stick him at six in the Ashes, if he can get a few 40s and fifties, bowl 12-15 overs keep it tight and nicking a wicket now and then, it will be a decent enough return from him. Its no cert that Marsh with zero English experience will do any better tbh.

Should play this in Sydney

Dhawan
Vijay
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Rohit
Saha
Ashwin
Shami
Umesh
Ishant

If Bhuvi is fit, he can replace Shami at no. 8.

Whatever it takes!!!
I really think Dhawan and Pujara need to be given a break... They are just not being good enough. I know it is crazy but I would drop them just to let them know that mediocre 20s are just not acceptable for this team. I know it s a crazy XI and will not get picked but this is what I would go with...

Vijay
Rahul
Kohli
Raina
Rahane
Saha (wk)
Ashwin
Akshar
Bhuvi
Umesh
Ishant

We may not win but we will get Raina at slip :)

Seriously, Rahul needs to be given another game, as braindead as his batting seemed to be, at Melbourne.. Bhuvi is hopefully fit enough and that 6-9 would perhaps make up for whatever 20s Dhawan or Pujara or Rohit can give us as the additional batsman....
