Daresay there's something incredibly arbitrary about how some of those numbers came to be. Pinchasalt.Wow. That Moneyball rating was interesting. Brett Lee right up there amongst the best seamers in the world - along with Lasith Malinga. Insightful work from The Crew.
With an abacus.how did they calculate it kiwininja
Another suggestion: Commentators in T20 matches most be aged over 50Just in case you couldn't tell how laid back and sassy this type of cricket is, they're not wearing ties in the comms.
Outrageous!
I can't wait until the commentators realise a spinner opens the bowling at least 40% of the time in modern T20, and doesn't call it a "big call" when it happens. Can't wait until spinners are banned from bowling in the powerplay.
I'm not joking. This is a serious suggestion.
ps I am not a crackpot.
Lol @ the Moneyball ratings thing. Totally missed how that team in "Moneyball" was actually put together - by selecting players statistically good at specific tasks that were under-valued or could be used to in roles in combination with other things to get the team to target goals.
All the Nine stats team have done there is give conventional stats different weightings to give us a number out of 100. In fact it's the exact sort of stat that the Moneyball principle tried to get away from. And I reckon their fielding ratings were entirely subjective too.
Daresay there's something incredibly sarcastic about how Heath made that post.Daresay there's something incredibly arbitrary about how some of those numbers came to be. Pinchasalt.
No it wasn't.yes that doesn't make much sense if it was a random number assigned to each player
Oh it wasn't a random number; it was just a weighted system to rate players out of 100 using conventional statistics. Which is absolutely fine, but it's not analogous to Moneyball at all.yes that doesn't make much sense if it was a random number assigned to each player
No. Lasith Malinga is my benchmark against which the quality of every seamer is measured. He's the 100 percenter in my book.Daresay there's something incredibly arbitrary about how some of those numbers came to be. Pinchasalt.
That happens all the time in NZ domestic cricket.Holy ****.
Yeah we've seen that shot heaps, but not THAT straight and pure. That is straight up ****ed up.
This just caused me to look up David Ripley (sadly by first searching for Stuart Ripley ) and was amazed to see he was still playing for Northants 2nd XI... Which then led me to this guy... Surely related to the mega-star that was Steve??Lol. Dominic Cork confirms that the new Oz captain acquired the nickname "Toby" whilst he had his stint in Scotland, after the Northants stalwart.?
