I don't think that matters, but I think the fact he's really - apart from Ponting - the only vice captain option with Watson injured does come into a bit. For better or worse
Don't see why we couldn't just make Ponting vc anyway, it's basically what he's been doing ever since Clarke got the job.

The three pace-bowlers bowled so well in partnership that it would be pointless to change the combination for Harris.

Harris has been a jet for Australia, however we will never build a solid bowling partnership if we keep changing it up depending on his fitness. The attack did the job in Melbourne and you must back them for Sydney.

Same. Indeed, if the only option for vice captain is Watson I'd argue we shouldn't have one....but yeah I can see that and the fact we won and Haddin was involved in an important first innings partnership keeping him in the team

I'd also argue it's time for the keeping talk to be made into it's own thread, given here's a lot of opinions ahead. someone go around and do it

Just got a text from one of my mates saying.

"Australia won by 122 runs. Punter scored 122 runs for the match. The difference"

Someone cross check that.

Seriously mate I don't know what is your perception about show of intent from a batsman but it certainly doesn't mean taking your leading leg out of the way and tonking with your eyes shut.
Yep the only problem our batsmen have is showing intent. If they improve that then all of a sudden we've got 11 Bradmans.

It'd be daft to drop any of the pacers, really.

They took 19/20 wickets conceding 337/451 @ 17.7 with no one bowler putting in an extraneously good performance. You wouldn't want to meddle with that attack.

Harris for Lyon is a very decent call though, particularly for Perth and even for Adelaide.

ftr NSW went in with 4 seamers at the SCG the other week. Of course we had Kat instead of Warner as the batting spinner. But it's been raining a lot. And it'll rain during the match.

I used to have plenty of intent when I went out to bat. Unfortunately I was no.11 and averaged about 10. Not through lack of intent though.

Congrats Aussies, kept playing hard for four days. Johnson's absence has allowed the others to bowl in a pack. Pattinson looks the real deal, and I may even change his description in my own records from "bowler" to "all rounder". Cowan looks a proper test opener, Warner will do better than he did here, Marsh I can't comment on (didn't see any of the Sri Lanka series), and we won't rehash the middle order issues. I think they need to replace Haddin sooner rather than later and they need to make up their minds where Watson fits into the side.
I'd bring him in at 3. I'd like to see the Cowan/Warner partnership given a good go.

James Pattinson said:
Siddle is fantastic, he keeps everyone in the side going.
A heart big enough for the whole team.

I'm surprised people still see likes of Rhyno and Dougie as test options because regardless of how good these guys are its pretty clear their bodies can't cope with the extra workload of test cricket.

So rather than have them play one test and then breakdown and be out of action for while, we should be realistic about the situation and use them in the shorter formats.

I like the look of this kid Yadav, looks like India can build a decent pace battery around him, hopefully he does not go back to India and get run down on those flat tracks that offer nothing. India really need to look at making pitches like the MCG, Perth, Wanderers etc, but don't think that will hapoen.
