It also gets fielders away from said slips if you play it well, even in seaming conditions. Just arbitrarily putting in the cupboard is pointless because what's the captain going to do? Put another **** there until you cop a ball you really can't leave and have a dash at.
And just bowl full outside off and wait? Then let them waste seaming conditions. The ball never swings or seams indefinitely, a dot ball in that situation invariably favours the batsman.

In reality the bowler will just bowl straighter and you can play a shot that doesn't get you out a ridiculous proportion of the time.

England already have it worked out. Especially Alastair Cook.

Poor work by Siddle there. He had a great opportunity to stick out a leg or maybe an elbow and take MS out. Live and learn
