Winning papers over a hell of a lot of cracks.The rigid, joyless thing bit is not too far off the mark though. Even when winning, England hadn't looked quite the happy team Australia and India look (even though we lose). Whether it was down to Flower or KP or something else is anyone's guess. Just think it comes down to the old sentiment of losing sight of why you play the game, and placing more importance on winning than is perhaps warranted or healthy.

This. In Flower's case I would agree that by the 13-14 Ashes he was fairly responsible for England's rigidity, lack of inventiveness and generally joyless environment which cost them big time. However to say England didn't achieve anything under Flower is rubbish imo, he led them to be a highly competitive team that were at the top for a short time - that's a major achievement for anyone really.Flower and Fletcher both did brilliant jobs for England but because of the way it ended for both them neither will get the credit they deserve.
