It seemed like an ideal showcase of Ravindra's pros and cons with the bat all packed into a brief 28 balls, that one tonight.

Classy whip through midwicket at 0:10, the nice play of the probabilities at 0:33, the square drive at 1:02, but also many ill-judged moments that prevent the opposition from really feeling dispirited and out of the hunt with him (oppos far worse than this attack). Prevents that purple patch run of scores befitting a prodigy from really commencing.

No audio on this I'm afraid, because pinching it as mute video from the scorecard was easier -

His career is going to go either of two ways. Either everything will click and he'll be a monster, as good or better than Kane. Or he'll be a discount Mark Waugh averaging low 30s. Will look stunning with blinders every now and again but will fail in the 20s and 30s more than he'll come off.

Aka “the Tom Latham route”.

Don't think hes quite a Kane Williamson talent. Ross/Big Fat Jesse level IMO. But would take that everyday of the week.

I'll wait until he actually starts scoring some runs in domestic cricket before I offer any opinion on his potential.

Setting aside the obvious case of Will Young, I'm not sure if anyone has really raised their stock that much during these A tours. I guess Tickner has done pretty well - 10 wickets at 31.7 in some pretty good batting conditions is a decent effort. Though he'll have to do a lot more than that to displace Wagner. Seifert largely treaded water in the FC games (averaging 29.6) but continues to look a decent option in limited overs (though he'd have to play as a specialist bat). Ferguson had a really good spell in one of the FC games, but also got taken to a fair bit. You could maybe argue Hamish Rutherford has got himself back in the mix?

Shame the inning was cut short. For a 19 year old he packs a punch. He plays one too many shots for my liking and doesn't seem to defend at all which can land him in trouble. That said all of the bowlers yesterday on show were international class bowlers. Ravindra has had all of 4 list A matches batting mostly below no. 8

Kane is measured, he doesn't kill the opponent with brutal strokes but dissects without them knowing. Ravindra looks like an aggressive batsman in limited overs. Different type of players. I think boys these days like to play their shots which is fair enough.

I think we now have enough of accumulators, need some flamboyance in the middle order. I think in two years time he'll likely make it into Black Caps as an all rounder.

I agree with the commies that said he has a lot of class and time. He's definitely not a batsman that should be batting below no 5 in any format.

Quite similar to Mitchell Santner or am I just seeing things?
