Still can't quite believe we're actually going with Moeen at 3. Just feels like it has such a low chance of it actually working.
The English quest for a steady top 3 has started when Strauss retired. During that long long period of time, England have always had a wealthy choice of keepers that can bat, bowlers that can bat, and genuine all-rounders.
If you can't find proper top order players, why not slot in an extra all-rounder?
Moeen might not succeed as a proper #3. Not even close, I'd say. Yet, he won't do (much) worse than, well, who exactly?
