Oh **** off. Just got home from Christmas drinks at my uncle's. As I turned tv on, I said to my mum "what are the odds on Cook getting out in the 3 minutes it took the taxi to get here?" Then the first thing we see is Root striding to the wicket

Mum's response no doubt was STFU about the cricket and to tell you to clean your room.

Nah. After a quarter of a century of basically talking about nothing else at all, I've worn her down. She's even become a bit of a cricket nerd herself. She started comparing Collingwood and Carberry's fielding a couple of weeks ago, and came out with the comment "they even look like each other. Not physically, obviously - I mean, one glows in the dark and the other is the dark." Impressive double swipe at gingers and black people. Not easy to fit both into the one sentence.
