Wondering if it would actually be ok for England to drop Stokes and Moeen and get in Dawson and Foakes and the side actually improves? Pope may well do well as captain in that scenario.

Yeah Stokes is the key to it all really, like we said in the lead up thread. The option of having a fight bowler who can give you 10-15 overs a match or innings is so important, particularly when one of your quicks looks out of sorts (Anderson) and your spinner hasn’t played a test in two years. Moeen as part of a four man at eco was always a risk even before his injury
