Still, it's a shot that you're very happy for Ponting to play on zero, and I reckon if they had've bowled the next ball in the same spot, he wouldn't have been playing the same shot.

Commentators haven't cottoned onto the fact that they are trying to get Ponting on strike wherever possible early, have as much of a go before he's gotten to 20. Still, I'd be surprised if the Poms continue with the man back to Katich if he and Ponting remain in for a good period of time. It worked so well for England in '05 because of the egos who were used to whacking boundaries; Katich is a more mature batsman very happy to pick off the singles wherever possible.

yep and despite that pressure and his team being 2 to 3 down for under 20.. he rescued his team and give them victory.. How many times Ponting has done that?

go look at his record and find me a match where he has single handedly won a match for Aus when his team was on such crisis..

You really have no clue

Good session for us. This pitch is playing very much like a Gabba Day 2 wicket now.

Um, could have been worse I guess. Second hour I thought we bowled well, Broad had his moments and Anderson's last spell was very good. Still in it, anyhow.

Classic Ponting against the spinner that cut shot. Swanny needs to get Katich on strike.

Aussies morning, England have looked pretty decent at times but really needed two wickets minimum here.
I'm off fellas, got work in 4 and a 1/2 hours (only half day team meeting though).

Lets hope i wake up for last hour and see Strauss and Cook 30-0

Still pretty even I reckon

Bowling isnt too bad, pitch isnt flat and you get the feeling that wickets arent too far away

Those figures they showed just before lunch, the descrepancies between middle order batting averages. They didn't overtly say it, but it was pretty much "how **** have Ponting and Hussey been recently relative to a few years ago?"

Well our bowlers have bowled just as well as theirs did yesterday.

The difference is the application that Watson and Katich have shown, really well played. The ball's done a bit, but they haven't gone after the good length balls. They've set it up really nicely for Punter and the middle order. Swann needs to pick up a few for us to have a chance now.

Strauss, Trott, Colly, Prior, learn from Watson and katich!

Was nervous for Ponting when he came in, but he looks settled now. Surprising Anderson bowled really well at the end, but I doubt he can keep it going all through the day.

Our batsmen hopefully would find their form, or we will not reach 300.

Kinda missing the whole point of a number 3 batsman.

Given that he'll come in at the loss of the 1st wicket, he'll never face a "crisis" like Laxman did against New Zealand recently, but there's still pressure on him to score runs. If Katich had gone early yesterday and Ponting followed him shortly afterwards, he's well on the way to starting a crisis.

He didn't have a great Ashes in 2005 and the batting line up largely failed around him. Come the 2006/07 Ashes, he scored 196 at Brisbane to set the tone for the series and scored 100 at Adelaide after England had responded to their thrashing at Brisbane by posting 550 (and iirc, had Australia in a bit of trouble early in their reply).
