**Official** English Football Season 2024/25

Takes me back to this game at Selhurst Park in 2001. Because Portsmouth are generally so abysmal away, this is still the only London ground I've seen an away win at (I've seen more wins at Wembley than all other London grounds put together), and this felt like one too. Some interesting names here, a young Peter Crouch, an even younger Gary O Neil and an old Robert Prosinecki (who was still way too good for that division). And what was Dermot Gallagher doing refereeing a Championship game on a Tuesday Night in S London?

Someone should let that prick Chris Sutton know.
I always here bits of the Monday Night Club on my way to and from the gym. I have no idea what Sutton adds to football coverage. He is seemingly no better informed than any random punter, says any kind of generic rubbish, and says it so slowly that it takes half an hour for each pointless sentence to be completed.

From what I gather from when I have the misfortune to read him or hear him on the box, he just appears to be some part of regular group think of ex pros, but with even less insight.

Been impressed by Rashford at Villa. I thought he'd be handy off the bench with Emery's nous but he's surpassed my expectations in terms of how he's contributed so far.

Don't think it'll make too much difference to his transfer fee but should be some decent European sides interested in him this summer.

He's actually significantly better when he's a pundit on English football as well. His role on Sky and other media when he's doing Scottish games is basically just to troll Rangers fans.

Sutton is shite on English football so god knows how bad he must be on Scottish if he's significantly worse.

Unusual to get such a high level of agreement on the football thread, credit to Sutton for uniting everyone.

However, going out on a limb here.........he's still preferable to Savage who makes me instantly either hit mute or change radio stations.

I also instantly mute a game where Savage is commentating, it's almost a reflex. Sutton is awful but Savage is in a tier of his own.

I don't want personality, I want someone talking sense. Don't know her name, but there was a Scottish lady who I think played for West Ham providing some analysis on Sunday on the radio who put this lot to shame.

Sutton has been given the Mark Lawrenson miserable, wry todger role. Doesn't do it as well as early Lawrenson, which wasn't loads better but occasionally humorous.

That clip really emphasises the increase in standards, both in terms of the players on the pitch, and the actual pitch itself, from what you'd have seen in the same division 15-20 years ago for me. I remember going to some Rotherham matches back in the mid 90s and the blokes on display back then could barely string a sequence of passes together, let alone complete a pass using the outside of the foot, as seen here. Great stuff.

To be fair this is based on seeing him on things like Football Focus when I've left the TV on and he comes across as sensible and not a massive troll.

I get it but I'll forever have a soft spot for Savage after his tweet when the whites won promotion in 2018
