About whom I had absolutely no idea. I looked him up just now and saw that his dad was David Johnson, which astonished me as the DJ I knew (Ipswich, Liverpool and England in the late 1970s) must surely have been too old to be Brennan's father. Sure enough there was another DJ who had completely slipped through my radar.
Played against his dad. Our centre half had him in his pocket so Johnson kicked him and our centre half got booked as the ref was their assistant manager. He was on Man Utds books at the time and we were about 14.

Here's an issue that didn't use to be a thing back in the day; all to do with the wearing of rainbow arm-bands and rainbow patterned warm-up jackets. Regarding the former, the Ipswich captain Sam Morsy declined to wear it because of his Islamic beliefs. Palace's captain Marc Guehi did wear it but added the words 'I love Jesus' to his and was told not to do that again, so, next time, added the words 'Jesus loves you' instead. And apparently that was OK. Now we learn that Man Utd aren't wearing their rainbow jackets because Noussair Mazraoui opted out due to his islamic beliefs and his team-mates thought it would be best if they all followed suit rather than have one of their team-mates look the odd one out. Whatever next? Maybe we'll see a Reform supporting player refusing to take the knee or wear a 'Respect' logo because of his beliefs. I suppose we've already had players refuse to wear the poppy due to their political beliefs. Interesting times.

Ths game reminds me of those times in the 1990s when Liverpool beat Newcastle 4-3 to finish off their hopes of winning the title. At least, I think it happened twice. And obviously Liverpool are way better placed than Newcastle were back in 1996, despite dropping two points.

I know this is not what you are doing, wpd, but I really ****ing hate the way people/players refusing to wear the rainbow armbands (or laces or whatever) is so frequently cast as a matter of "political" opinion. The ****ing thing symbolises equality. Labeling it as "political" misframes the issue (i.e., the idea that everyone is entitled to basic rights and dignity) as something that can legitimately be objected to, and perpetuates the idea that by simply being, certain individuals/groups of individuals are undeserving of recognition as human beings. Absolutely dire stuff.

It was also pointed out that Morsy seems happy enough to wear a shirt sponsored by a bookmaker, so exactly where do his beliefs begin and end......roughly where they suit it seems.

Not sure if you follow Exploding Heads and Colin from Portsmouth, but one of the things that had annoyed him in 2024 was Rainbow Lanyards. It just made me think of a fella we had a retirement do for last week (had just turned 60) who told me he was 'done with the whole diversity and inclusion ****'!!

My wife works in EDI and she'd quite happily be done with the ****. Unfortunately it is still too often needed to deal with all the Gregg Wallace's of the world.

Anyway love to the family

Yes, quite right. The only example I can think of as 'political' is the guy who refused to wear the poppy on his shirt many years ago. Maybe it was James McLean of Sunderland due to his Repblican Irish roots? I deliberately avoided any sort of opinion in my post, partially because I don't really have strong views on the matter. I wouldn't have been happy if my man Guehi had got into trouble, but common sense seems to have prevailed.

Arsenal being so good from corners feels like a throwback to the days of Bould, Adams and Smith around 25 years ago, and not at all what I expected from the current side.

Onana was also pretty iffy on the goal that was ruled out for offside tbh. Just ball-watching and then sort of fell over backwards.
Almost a year to the day that I made this post, and he's done it again.

Utd need shot of this bloke. He's ****ing crap. I don't care what anyone says about how great he's been this season overall.

Rest could not have come at a better time for us.

If we rotate heavily for Girona (we should), that's a whole week off for our squad that desperately needs it.

We were dropping points to Everton. No doubt about it

Must be painful being an Arsenal fan.

Soon as the opportunity presents itself to close the gap and put pressure on Liverpool, they crumble and drop points.
