**Official** English Football Season 2023/24

Very predictable result.

What I find head-scratching are the United fans who want to absolve ETH of the blame and instead look at the ownership. Losing 3-1 at home to Brighton is unacceptable for any United manager, the tactics and substitutions were all over the place.

Spurs were in a diabolical state towards the end of last season both on and off the pitch. All the Kane stuff was fuel to the fire. If there's any lesson to be learnt from what Ange has done so far, it's that a manager with proper tactics and leadership can turn the entire show around.

We all know ETH is a good coach, has been for a long time. The issue here is his man-management. Not a single player looks interested on the field and it's non-stop drama off the field.

I think you can criticize ETH and the owners. The owners are the bigger problem. They don’t care about winning and the football structure is bad. The goal is profit and top 4.

I’ve lost hope they are leaving. They just want a cash injection without losing control.

With the squad they've got, top 4 is a realistic goal. ETH is accountable for how they are currently playing.

I get the ambition of the owners is part of the conversation, I just think it's wild that some fans are ignoring the manager completely yet they had pitchforks out for Ole.

Who would have thought hiring a Dutch manager might lead to conflict within the dressing room?

We underperformed for years before the fans turned on Ole. Even by the end of his era the ‘pitchforks’ level was way below where it would have been for anyone else. You get all sorts online but the fans at the games haven’t turned too hard on any of our managers.

Ten Haag has had one good season and 5 bad games. Sacking him when the backroom staff are what they are would be a bit like if our first choice goalkeeper was an overweight sleeping toddler and we decided to bin Rashford cos he’s looked off the pace for a few games.

comparing Spurs and United isn’t fair at all though, they are coming off a bad season and the only way is up from there

Under the Glazers selling players has been worse than buying them. They hold on to them and then they have little value when they do try to move them. Worse is that they don’t believe the marketplace when they do. They tend to hold out for internal valuations that don’t reflect any actual interest.

McTominay and Maguire are still around although they don’t fit what ETH wants. VDB was bought without a plan and is still around. Martial has only survived this long by being a favorite of one of the Glazers. I don’t know what the plans for Pellistri and Amad are but I’m not sure ETH wants them so that looks like more money thrown away.

Allegedly ETH doesn’t trust the scouts and so keeps wanting players he had or saw in Holland. I wouldn’t trust Fletch or Arnold either but that means there’s still a mess there.

I don’t think it’s just about only having top 4 ambition. It’s about going about it in an inefficient way that no other club would attempt.

I'm not calling for him to be sacked, I simply think there should be questions asked about the style of play.

If last season was "good" then it just goes to show how far the standards have fallen.

It's amazing how many players have left Brighton and yet, they just continue to do what they do.

David Seaman 60 years old today.
Did you know he's just been made the President at the golf club from the village of your youth? Has been a member there for years, but with Dickie Davies departing this mortal coil, he's taken over the role. Lovely fella, very easy to chat to.
