**Official** English Football Season 2023/24

Haha I have started using this sort of approach to conversations at work actually.

Whenever I am asked if I would like to do something and I choose to decline, I just say "no" without providing a reason or explanation.

Then when the (inevitable) follow-up is "do you mind if I ask why?" I just say "yes", again without providing further context.
Just another example of the insidious influence of sport on behaviour in wider society.

So what if he did? Dalot was still an imbecile to argue about it when he's on a yellow card and is aware of the ruling this season. I don't even really care if the refs aren't completely consistent about dishing out yellows for dissent. The fact that it sometimes happens should be enough to encourage players to stfu, however stupidly entitled they might be.
except he wasnt arguing after the yellow at the referee and was expressing his frustration for a moment in the same sequence that wasn’t even directed at the ref. if we’re now punishing players for expressing frustration at wrong calls and want them to be emotionless robots instead that’s worse than your other hypothetical of the match being in the hands of var as the primary

you also can’t be seriously suggesting that refs being inconsistent with it is fine when it can easily affect results and cause unfair disadvantages……

did i stutter?

That's where I was with it. The yellow was fine, but it was the 93rd minute of a tight Derby match.....have a bit of understanding.

Not sure if Liverpool really good or West Ham just really bad...

Few thoughts
- Darwin LW and hugely effective
- Gakpo really good in the false 9
- Elliott MoTM at RW. Massive given Salah goes for AFCON.
- Jones should start v Arsenal.
- Quansah continues to look great

West Ham very poor, Moyes is doing enough to survive and he obviously has good will due to the cup win but that's one of the best squads they have had in God Knows how long and they should be doing better.

Are they? Or are they just at their level? Strike me as approximately the eighth best team in the league. Doing well in Europe too. Has been a rough couple of weeks admittedly.

Yeah they were absolutely played off the park - partly they were bad but I think LFC were just too good. West Ham are in about the right position in the league and seemingly doing well in the cup competitions.

I expected more from them but Anfield can get the better of any team.

I know both teams made 6 changes last night, but they seemed to impact West Ham so much more. They were a shadow of the team who outplayed Wolves on Sunday.

I see Klopp has now had a go at the fans for the lack of atmosphere. Apparently, if you're not up for the fight on Saturday then give your ticket to someone who is!!

Yep, our second stringers are a long way behind Liverpool's, especially Ogbonna & Johnson. the former is finished, the latter We then had Benrahma and Fornals who might well be leaving in January and looked like they would rather be anywhere else. It was mightily poor.

Minor point of interest at Selhurst Park tonight is Brighton's Jack Hinshelwood playing against the side where his grandfather Paul and uncle Martin both played in the 1970s and 1980s. Beyond that, Brighton seem to be all over Palace, so it seems unlikely to remain 1-0.

EDIT
And sure enough, Welbeck does what Brighton have been threatening for much of the game.

Why is Palace v Brighton a derby? Doesn't seem to be any obvious reason behind it
It goes back to an acrimonious cup tie in the late 1970s, which barely registered with me despite following Palace even then. It's all very odd afaics, but clearly there are supporters on both sides who are borderline sectarian about the whole thing.

I don't gaf about the rivalry. I'm just jealous that a club of similar size to my lot are so much better managed and recruited. Anyway, we ended up being pretty relieved with the point, and couldn't have complained if we'd lost.

One of the better psychological warfare games I've seen lately haha.

Now its all the media is using to build the game up and it plays on a soft spot where Arteta has failed in the past. We will see if it pays off.
