We will know soon enough, but clearly not all departments on same page ,probable that ETH etc wanted him as you can see they are not exactly blessed with strikers.

I dunno where he goes, Italy back in the day used to take some rotters but not anymore so that's not the cert that some think.

Maybe France?

I doubt any side in the premier league would want the hassle.
ten Hag has previous history on backing people of questionable morals anyway it doesnt just have to do with him thinking the squad would have benefitted from 1 extra forward

Benjamin Mendy’s new club fans already had protests and booed him when his case went to trial and he was let go off in the end so French clubs may not want Greenwood

they were obviously trying to bring him back when you were skeptical that everyone criticising it would have no effect

a team in Turkey or Saudi will take him and the fans there wont care much
I still don't think Rachel Riley was the straw that broke the camel's back!!

Ched Evans and Luke McCormick both continued to play in England, wouldn't be surprised if Greenwood ends up doing so too.

it wasnt just her didnt MPs start chiming in too? The Athletic’s coverage of it was also pretty damning especially if that internal list the club was supposed to have made ever got and the media started questioning those who the club thought would have supported the move……..

he may end up playing in England in the future but any club trying to sign him now will be daft

I'm kind of sad we won't get to see the massive PR disaster that would have ensued if they had reinstated him, but yeah this is good stuff. Well done Utd.

Yeah they made the right call in the end, I didn't think they would as I thought that if they were going to do this then they wouldn't have waited until the season started.

Just wobbly-spined corporate hesitation I suppose.

I do think the general reaction, helped form the decision, but I also think the idea of him being rehabiltated back in the team was leaked, just to see what that reaction would be. I also think they probably knew Greenwood would be happy to go with mutual termination, before they leaked it, this way they kind of look the good guys comparitively.

Yeah I've heard this from a few people, but the leaks all went to Adam Crafton at The Athletic, and there's zero chance the club choose him for a strategic leak. Whereas he's exactly the guy you would leak the story to if you wanted the club shamed into u-turning.

they would have been called much better guys if they just released him straight up at 1st, this circular logic sounds like the ones conservatives make and justify as owning the libs

But who will offer him a contract I wonder?
Plenty will. I reckon he'll want to go abroad and play away from home for a while. Saudi clubs could take him and I think most of the other leagues may take him as he isn't as globally known outside England IMO.

The Athletic had a pretty good breakdown of the timeline, Eric and Murtagh were keen to have him back and Arnold had made the call to bring him back but they kept dithering firstly with the US tour and then the ladies world cup .

From all accounts some of the female players were strongly against it while others not so much, an obvious reason the latter may have been wary of internal backlash. Still though the abuse online was unreal and police had to get involved.

Their was internal anger as some people were planning to quit, others researching whether they should strike and it did not help that Arnold kept putting off the decision . The intervention of Riley was important as it once again brought the story back into the mainstream and then local MPS got involved.

The below was pretty much when Arnold decided the heat was to much for him .

I dunno if I posted to much from the Athletic, mods can delete if so and apologies obviously.

United’s plan to bring Greenwood back, though, remained intact and dates before September’s international break were pencilled in for the announcement. This would have allowed the women’s World Cup to finish and afford United’s women’s players time after the final before the club explained the decision.

On Thursday, August 17, the charity Women’s Aid wrote directly to United to express their concerns. They received a phone call from the club on Friday lunchtime, with both sides feeling the conversation was constructive on the issue of abuse and the education of players.

Just hours later, The Athletic reported further details which confirmed the extent of the club’s planning around Greenwood’s return. These included the severity of internal dissent, that a series of domestic abuse charities were assumed to be “hostile” to the decision and how the club’s internal process had not engaged with any charities specialised in violence against women.

Women’s Aid condemned United publicly on social media, just hours after their phone call. Their tweet read: “‘Hostile’ is an inappropriate way to describe domestic & ***ual abuse charities in stakeholder mapping, but especially in this case.”

Women’s Aid staff had been told by fans who protested against Greenwood’s return at Old Trafford on Monday, August 14 that supporters of all ages approached them to thank them, with some saying this situation has triggered difficult memories for them of abuse they had personally encountered.

By Friday evening, that line could no longer hold. The club had been plunged into a situation the decision-makers now deemed intolerable. Arnold began to recognise that, as the man who would make the final call, this could become so big that it defined his career as well as his reign.

Athletic’s coverage of this entire saga was superb and was instrumental imo

Which club takes him on? As talented as he is, he won't be a popular signing anywhere
