Just got an alert saying Kane wants to force a move to ****ing Chelsea.

He's one of their own, eh?

Surely the police breached anonymity requirements? They released enough info that it could literally only be one person. Might as well have pulled the Lisa S… no that’s too obvious, L. Simpson.

don't think there are any such requirements of note tbh, law enforcement activities fall outside the scope of data protection law, and I don't think there are any bespoke laws regarding suspect anonymity

Huh, pretty sure we have bespoke anonymity laws in NI and Ireland. The former would be very recent though.

So it’s only an offence to name him if you get the wrong guy?

I don't think it's an offence per se to name anyone tbh. As a matter of courtesy you probably shouldn't do this until they're actually charged with something (which is why they've used the Lisa S approach), but afaik there's no legal rule that forbids this.

Theresa May lobbied to introduce an anonymity law when PM iirc, but there was no appetite for it so it went nowhere.

Tbh there was no real way this could have been contained by the sounds of it. Once anyone got a whiff it could be GS Everton were basically forced to confirm/deny one of their players had been nicked, and once that was done the horse had well and truly bolted.

I remember when Adam Johnson was arrested there were loads of people defending him. Made up a whole totally fictional narrative of him meeting a girl in a club when drunk and not knowing her age and all.

This time all I see is memes. I guess this is progress?

Yeah, that people keep it vaguely under wraps for main is probably best for all involved...

Yep that narrative was almost accepted as fact.

I guess nobody knows much about this one yet
