One thing I will say in defence of Stevie Mac; if their 2nd choice is that guy who played at the Emirates last season, the one who basically could've saved every goal if he'd stood up, then we might be looking at another Derby 07-08 this season.

Organisational skill is way underrated for keepers too. It's sooo much easier playing in front of one who's vocal and knows how to organise a defence. But it's not really observable, so we just kind of pretend it doesn't exist. Then there are cases like Neuer where his sweeping ability lets the rest of the team attack much better.

Still stand by my Almunia comment though. IIRC that particular season his save % was a good 3 or 4 points lower than the next-worst Premiership keeper. Bit facetious to put a number on how many points he cost them but it's hardly controversial to say having someone competent would have made a pretty big difference to their chances of winning the title.

 yeah I remember that guy. I totally see where Steve is coming from now.

Cazorla did the slowest panenka ever for the 4th goal, and everyone got really upset because of how disrespectful it was.

International Coach
Give him his due, Schteve clearly recognised that Krul is the only actual footballer at the club, and some of the saves he has made have been fantastic. I'd dare say he might've been just as valuable to Newcastle as De Gea was to us when our defence was letting through numerous chances. As pointed out, its impossible to give a true points quantification, but its a nice and easy stat to fabricate for the press to justify someones worth to your team

RIP Howard Kendall.

I could be mistaken but he may be the last English manager to win the title

Edit - I am mistaken as I forgot about Leeds in 92, as you do

BARNES OUT
Navas is genuinely terrified of the goal, had a wide open net after rounding Federici and sat on the ball and tried to cut back in and made a honking mess of the thing. Sterling bailed him out, otherwise that's one of the worst efforts I've ever seen. I suppose the 50+ games without scoring has really gotten into his head, especially after his howler at Palace.

Of ffs. Another last minute winner by the visitors to Selhurst. I thought we might have got away with Gayle being stupid enough to get himself sent off.
