*Official* English Football Season 2014-15

Isn't it odd that the SFA went against the rest of Europe and closed the transfer window early when we had a transfer ban yet this season they've kept it open until September?

Surprised Arsenal didn't go for Alderweireld. Would've filled our slightly dodgy defender from Ajax void now that Vermaelen is gone.*

Gutted that Falcao is joining United. :( One of my favourites, I wonder if this will change that.

And no doubt he will improve them, but very surprised with their transfer strategy this summer. So top-heavy.

Think 16m is too much, but still pretty sensible business from Arsenal.

Suuuuuuurely that means Falcao is all good then.

I don't think RVP or Rooney are as good as they used to be, but I think you're asking for off the pitch issues having 3 guys like that - who expect to start. I doubt LVG uses all 3 in a match and you're only in 2 competitions for the rest of the season. It's not my money but I reckon if United want a forward they'd be better placed with trying to get someone who has high work-rate off the ball or/and a creator with it (Cavani). Falcao might just end up being an expensive lamp post.

What's really killing United is that they move the ball so slowly, very predictably, and they don't have much speed up front. Falcao doesn't help you with any of that. Who knows though; the goals he might bring could spur them on to change/be more confident. But that's also reliant on the assumption that he comes back the same player as pre-injury.

For Arsenal, I think they need a forward bad enough to risk it. United don't IMO.
Pretty good summary IMO

IF Di Maria gets the ball in good positions then Falcao will score plenty of goals IF he is fit

Trouble with MU has been that the back 3 play tippy tappy for a while before looking up and finding no options in MF so hoof it long

Then on the odd occasion it is in MF, it is tippy tappy again before inevitably losing it or hoofing it up to 2 guys that don't have the pace they once did

Doesn't matter how much talent you have up front if that's the play book for the rest of the season

I'm hoping now Rio's gone, the hoof balls will too, he was the worst for it IMO. Take it to the edge of the centre circle then aim for edge of the area, each ****ing time.

BARNES OUT
Negrado leaving is a bit weird given Aguero and Jovetic's fitness records.
Yeah this makes no sense to me. Although Negredo's fitness has been just as bad since January so who knows.

I suspect Furball is on the money with there being something happening behind the scenes. Now we'll be a striker short around Christmas and be forced to buy in January imo.

Been happening under LVG though. The back 5 dwell on the ball and then look up to see no options for short forward passes. So it goes sideways or back. If it doesn't they hoof it up front. Without specialist wingbacks and a better CM the formation isn't really working atm.

Hull the major winners on Deadline Day. Ben Arfa, Abel Hernandez, Diame and Gaston Ramirez. 4 awesome signings for them.

Welbeck's a weird one. Clearly has heaps of potential, but doesn't really solve anything at Arsenal. He isn't an out-and-out goal scorer and doesn't seem to have the natural goalscoring instinct of a world class striker. He could have a Sturridge-esque turnaround, but I don't see it happening. Think £16m is an awful lot of money for a 23 year old who hasn't really improved all that much since he broke into the first-team. Who knows though, might end up being a great signing. Just surprised they didn't make more of an effort to get Falcao, Remy or even Balotelli. Arsenal also majorly missed the boat in regards to signing another defender. 6 defenders for 4 positions isn't enough, especially given Arsenal's record when it comes to injuries.

Surprised United didn't go for another proper defender too. Their business this season has been so top-heavy, and they're left with a very mediocre defence, with no defensive support in midfield. Bizarre from LVG, but with quality like Di Maria, Falcao and Herrera added to an already strong attack, they should start scoring heaps of goals soon.

The need for an out and out goalscorer is massively overstated. At the top level, those kind of players make team worse, not better.
