If Ballotelli wasn't playing like an arse with dysentery I bet it wouldn't have been mentioned.

More worrying for yer Scousers is how they rolled out the red carpet for Real. The visitors are clearly a better side currently, but was an absolute cakewalk for them.

So Tottenham are playing Asteras Tripolis in the Thursday Cup tonight. I hadn't heard of them so I had to google. Apparently they're a small team from North London.

And Suarez
Yes, of course, but...

The Sturridge sized hole is being understated in some cases though, worth saying. Obviously they're a poorer size for the lack of Suarez, but taking Sturridge too has killed them.
this. The team is missing 50+ goals compared to last season; we're bound to struggle. It could be worse, which is saying something.

We got lucky, in a way, that Basel lost. Honestly, I doubt Rodgers has planned to get any points from the Real games anyway.

In the league we just need to keep picking up the results and we have a run of games where we can do that. Hopefully it clicks on the way. In pre-season (yes, I know) you saw a glimpse of the team we could still have against Dortmund and then again against Tottenham. People forget last season we more or less started just as disjointedly and got better and better as the season progressed. We're also rotating and don't have the same XI out every week, with a lot of new players to bed in, and it all kind of makes sense. Sucks, but in proper perspective not as bad as you'd think.

Defensively, though, we're still a shambles and that makes no sense or I guess has little excuse. We've spent a tonne of money on the backline and it's still ****.

Of course you looked good against Dortmund, their World Cup players were still on holiday and they were barely a week into their pre-season.

Lol at bringing up a pre-season win over second-string Dortmund as a reason for optimism. Whole other level of straw-clutch.

Valdes about to join Liverpool! Liverpool await imminent Valdes arrival! Valdes to sign in November!

...Valdes trains with Man United. Haha :(

They have also lost five of their eight league games this season. They are not the same side as a couple of years ago.
You don't sell two world class players, buy a heap of good ones and regress by that much though. Their league form isn't even that relevant. They've mostly been lacking a bit of creativity against a deep defence and made a heap of individual errors at the back, against sides that try to play they've usually been fine (see the Champions League for instance). Dortmund just blitzed through them like they weren't there.

Christ you lot are predictable. I couldn't care less about the win, I am talking about how we played and linked up. Unless you think absolutely nothing can be seen from friendlies why bother replying?

Same Dortmund made Bayern look awful four days later. They rested like 3 players, it wasn't second string.

Yeah, I remember this. Dortmund have been suffering from injuries and they've gotten some new players but it was a friendly where both teams put out strong teams. Forget the score line but we just totally outclassed them going forward. There was a killer video (let me find it) on our passing combinations in that game. I think with Sturridge coming back we can improve quite a bit but, as I've said, defensively I think we've got really big issues.

Liverpool's problems are probably a bit like Dortmund's in that they're great in transition but have struggled a bit against a deep block, which hasn't been helped by individual errors at the back.

Think there are a fair few similarities between Arsenal and LIverpool atm tbh.

Keepers who were widely regarded as young and talented but who are prone to embarrassing themselves a bit.
Defensive issues whether it be personnel or lack thereof.
The midfield being compromised because of the manager's insistence on, seemingly, building it around one player - a player who many of the fan base are/were increasingly disillusioned with.
Form of standout midfielder of 2013/14 suffering in comparison.
Injuries/absence of some key attacking players.

So when does this became an actual thing rather than just a way for me to make fun of the Wilshere fan boys on twitter?

Heh. Probably never. Remember when Bale went a ridiculous number of games before being involved in a Spurs win?

Yeah I think the difference is that players returning from injury should sort out Arsenal's problems at both ends of the pitch, whereas it'll only sort out Liverpool's up top. Still fully expect Arsenal to comfortably take 3rd unless Koscielny misses the season or something.

Yeah, I agree and without wanting to be accused of Arsenal-itis, I do think now they've lost Suarez the average quality of our players is just a little bit higher than that of theirs.
