Yeah, it's crazy really. I am not sure I would have it down as the best goal, for me personally. But the thing about that goal for me is that it not only required a huge amount of skill, but a ridiculous amount of athleticism and timing. To connect with a ball moving at that trajectory and speed and not only get a good purchase on it, but rifle it into the roof of the net from the edge of the area, is a phenomenal feat, whichever way you look at it.
He does completely shin it though.

Yeah, there's an element of good fortune in that respect tbf. Even so, I suspect most players wouldn't even be able to get their shins close to the ball if they attempted to pull it off.

****ing amazing that you've got the temerity to use that as a stick to beat the RVP one after just nominating Rooney's overhead. jesus
Yeah and as all readers of the footy thread know I love Rooney to bits and think RVP's ****.

Poses an interesting question though, what would you guys rate as the best goal in Premier League history? Bergkamp against Newcastle? Di Canio against Wimbledon? Beckham against Wimbledon? Yeboah vs Liverpool? Henry vs United? Rooney vs City? Kasami against Palace? Shearer against Everton? Cantona vs Sunderland? Personally, I'd go with Bergkamp against Newcastle, just such a beautiful goal, everything about it was just perfect.
Vieira against Liverpool in 2004/05. Arsenal lost 2-1 to a last minute Neil Mellor goal, but Vieira's goal was amazing.

Actually not as good as I remember it. But it's still a stunning goal.

I've never been a fan of goals like Rooney's against West Ham - sure, great vision but he's basically just punted it. Vieira's goal is as the result of 3 passes. But they're so quick, so precise and Vieira's run is so good that in a matter of seconds Vieira goes from having nothing on to being in on goal. And it was a great wee finish as well.

Yeah agree, it is one of the best things about him though. Just before he set up Jovetic I thought go on do something ridiculous and he just did.

Amazing to think that he played in central defence in a Champions League final.
