*Official* English Football Season 2013-14

Travesty if Wilshere's goal against Norwich isn't goal of the season. Beautiful football.
For me, possibly the best goal in EPL history. It's ridiculous. Couldn't believe Neville and Carra voted for Kasami's and Rooney's over it.

Best goal in EPL history is bit of a exaggeration, but anyway depends on what type of goals you prefer.

Team goals versus individual ones. I'd have gone for Kasami's personally.

Interesting though that there was no real standout dribbling through 5/6 players and scoring type contender this time.

Well, I can't even express how awful that idea about B teams is, so I won't try.

Seems the England cricket squad went to watch United tonight, I'd have refused point-blank myself. Can't stand Prawns.

Oh and Phil Jones injured, can't say I'm gutted, but obviously horrible for the kid.
Was offered free tickets for last night myself from work but the Eurovision semi final was a more enticing option

I love screamers as much as anyone but a goal that requires that level of cohesion between players and technical ability happens very rarely. I find it hard to think of any goals to really rival it or are similar to it. Wilshire actually starts the move near his own box. My other favourite is Bergkamp's turn one. Rooney's or even Kasami's occur often enough - in fact I reckon Suarez has scored 2 goals better than both against Norwich.

Poses an interesting question though, what would you guys rate as the best goal in Premier League history? Bergkamp against Newcastle? Di Canio against Wimbledon? Beckham against Wimbledon? Yeboah vs Liverpool? Henry vs United? Rooney vs City? Kasami against Palace? Shearer against Everton? Cantona vs Sunderland? Personally, I'd go with Bergkamp against Newcastle, just such a beautiful goal, everything about it was just perfect.

Bergkamp v Leicester was a bit special too.

Fancy the Everton fan missing Barry Horne v Wimbledon off.

Was the Graham Stuart goal for Chelsea at Sheff Wed before the premier league? That was a bit good.

Haha, that was a pretty special goal, but even as an Everton fan I wouldn't rank it up there. Gareth Farrelly's goal however, probably the most important goal in the recent history of the club, other than maybe Paul Rideout's at Wembley.

So hard to pick 1 goal though, been so many amazing goals.

Bergkamp vs. Newcastle surely isn't one of the best. It's pretty cool but not even a particularly difficult skill. Especially not against Nikos Dabizas.

Haha yeah. Another example of this is the halfway line goals, which again are pretty cool but are basically the equivalent of executing a fifty yard pass accurately, which isn't that impressive.

I reckon all things considered the hardest skill to actually do is volleying, particularly when the ball is travelling at a ninety degree angle to where you are hitting it (so for instance Scholes vs Bradford was better than Scholes vs Villa IMO). Thus the first two goals that come to mind are Scholes vs Bradford and Di Canio vs Wimbledon, which, incredibly, if I remember correctly were scored on the same weekend. RVP's last season deserves a mention because volleying over your shoulder must be ****ing difficult as well. I am probably forgetting a couple of examples, but I do think that if we measure the best in terms of how hard the skill is, it is very likely to be a volley of this kind.

I think the skill in the Bergkamp goal is pretty impressive really. But there is no denying that Dabizas was an absolute prank player and a competent defender would probably have dealt with things a lot better, and probably prevented the goal.

The debate over the best goal always seems to come down to what people rate more highly: skill or aesthetics. Often it's a combination of the two tbf, and often it's team vs individual (in general people seem to prefer the individual) but it's a pretty subjective distinction. If you're going split down the middle a gorgeous team goal with some improbable technique in combination, like Wilshere's, has to be at the top really. Although I'm surprised Shelvey's halfway line volley isn't getting more of a mention considering it's better than Rooney's and, like Halsey says, volleys are incredibly difficult to master, especially from such a distance. It's fresh in the mind too, I'd probably put that second.

van Persie vs Charlton is amazing
Yeah, it's crazy really. I am not sure I would have it down as the best goal, for me personally. But the thing about that goal for me is that it not only required a huge amount of skill, but a ridiculous amount of athleticism and timing. To connect with a ball moving at that trajectory and speed and not only get a good purchase on it, but rifle it into the roof of the net from the edge of the area, is a phenomenal feat, whichever way you look at it.

Rooney vs. Citeh is surely the winner on those grounds. Volleys it from a 90 degree angle, but at head height a yard behind him.
