You'll Never Walk Alone
Both Carra and Rafael's challenges were terrible imo, and I would have thought a red for both was fair.

Was surprised that Carra's at the least didn't get a red. Didn't think Rafael's challenge looked half as bad, although I guess that was helped by the fact that he (luckily) only realy clipped the player.

That hattrick by Kuyt must surely be one of the cheapest ones of all time. I mean, I guess there's something to be said for being in the right place at the right time, but that was taking the piss.

Yeah, both should have walked and Rafael's subsequent reaction meant he was lucky to stay on the park, IMO

Carragher's challenge was bizarre. It's like he totally randomly decided to violently assault Nani at a particularly docile stage of the game, with Liverpool well on top. I thought Rafael's challenge was a definite yellow at the time. Might need to look at it again, I'm a bit surprised how many people here would have sent him off. At the time I didn't even think there was a debate to be had, except perhaps over whether he should be booked again for his reaction.

I think he should defo have walked at least for a combination of the tackle and reaction, tbh

Ref had a decent enough game though.

Was Rafael's reaction worse than that of everyone else's? I presumed that he just let the whole thing slide because there were handbags flying all over the place and he couldn't be arsed trying to judge who did what.

Don't really like his style of refereeing, stops the game just so he can talk to players far too often imo. I hate playing when referees do that, slow down and breaks up the game so much. Also, regardless of his ruling on Rafael, not sending off Carra was definitely a complete shocker.

But I'd rather rant about Carrick and Rooney continuing to be total **** than about the ref. If Berbatov and Hernandez don't start together against Arsenal, and they won't, I'll cry.

Would have thought you'd rather rant about how Carrick has somehow been granted a contract extension.

Gah. It's probably the right decision, realistically having him in the squad is probably better than not having him in the squad and we'd have to pay for a similar-quality replacement. He's so poor, though. I'll be furious if we don't get an actual footballer for his position in the summer.

Carragher should've walked no doubt, but there is an element of "boy who cried wolf" with Nani. He goes down so easily and so often he has made a rod for his own back.

Crying on the stretcher shocking too. Can't recall a footballer doing that and have seen far worse injuries.

Rafael's was a definite red. He was about 3 feet in the air ffs. If the player he's tackling drop kicking doesn't jump then it's a potential leg breaker. It was horrid. Absolutely terrible.

True, but you'd think that wouldn't apply when he literally has a hole in his leg and a stream of blood running into his sock.

My defence is that he was late to the ball purely because he was off balance due to Maxi's shocking swipe at his knee a second before, which was just as cynical.

Yeah, the Maxi contact with his knee wasn't nice but there's no excusing Rafael's tackle tbh.

Bog standard Rafael tackle, we've all accepted his tacklings on par with Scholes'. Still love him though
