Didn't he score a couple of sweet free-kicks, or did I imagine that?

Not that it matters anyway, can barely remember an Aldo goal from further back than 12 yards, but there were still 476 goals :). To paraphrase Uppercut, you don't get more points for how pretty the goal is.

I agree there's more to his game but wouldn't I be right in saying he never scored an EPL goal from >18yards out?? Swear I remember hearing that.

Jose Luis Chilavert? Must know him?

Agree about Group F.
Wasn't the GK from Chile who scored goals from penalties? My memory must be playing tricks on me. Rodrigo Ceni of Sao Paoulo scores goals penalties and free kicks.

Interesting in the Juventus - Bayern Munich game (which Bayern won 4-1), their goal keeper Hans-Jorg Butt went up and took a penalty and scored. They must have some dire penalty takers in their ranks if a goal keeper has to take them. A bit of a WTF for mine.

Group F should be very tight, Barcelona, Inter, Rubin, and Kiev can all go through. I'm actually pretty nervous.
Butt has scored 26 penalties in the Bundesliga. Can do the job.

Didn't think I was criticising him tbh. Just don't think it's the most outrageous thing to likenhim to a fox in the box.

I agree with the sentiment, but "players like Didier Drogba" don't exactly grow on trees.
We sold "our Drogba" last summer to City. Not going to find one like that for a long long time. Utter utter ****flap that he was.

LOL at how much that sounds exactly like something I'd say.

Yes, someone who could actually just stick the ball in the back of the net rather than trying to walk it in all the time would be very welcome at Arsenal at this moment in time tbh, which is why I would welcome him for the most part. As Grecian said though, the wages he would likely demand would be troublesome, I can't imagine Arsenal would be too happy paying that amount for most players, let alone a 33 year old who has played less than 10 games over the last 2 seasons.

Eduardo was that guy until his injury. Seems to have neutered him somewhat, he's now looking very hesitant to run at big defenders and shirks away from challenges he was flying into pre-injury. Just looks more hesitant full stop, which saddens me as he was a complete cold blooded killer before and could've scored so many with all the chances we create.

This is true, his finishing and other qualities do seem to have tailed off recently, looked totally out of depth in recent weeks. However, I have faith that this can yet be turned around. My concerns with him are more that he doesn't pose any threat physically. Before or after injury, he was never going to stand up to a challenge from a big centre back trying to force him off the ball, similarly he would never be winning the ball in the air against anyone worth their salt. Van Nistelrooy would at least offer an improvement in these areas.

Yeah, but he's been playing as a lone striker recently, which he's completely unsuited for so I can understand the ineffectiveness. Best result for me is Chamakh in January. I've been watching Bordeaux just to see him and Gourcuff play and he is a very good fit for us.

Big, strong, works hard all the time, probably his best strength is his ability to win the ball and then make the right pass after and is deadly in the air. Would be a really good squad player imo and adds a lot that we don't have right now.

Gourcuff is gun, I've been doing the same though Duffer, keeping an eye out for Bordeaux games.
He'd add a lot but when we can get him for free in the summer I don't see Wenger spending on him.

I would say Van Nistelrooy is far too good to be called a fox in the box tbh, has much more to his game, that said, I wouldn't mind seeing him in an Arsenal shirt were it not for the fact that I was worried about his fitness.
Hmmm Van Nistelrooy's hold-up play was actually pretty weak when he played for us. He's a bit slow too, so the opposition can defend pretty far up the pitch. Uncannily good at popping up in the right place at the right time, and it's no surprise that he scores bucketloads, but United as a team improved a great deal after he left. I don't think he's quite the man you want in Arsenal's situation, although obviously you wouldn't complain if he signed.

Bit of pace, bit of technical ability and a bit of strength is what I'd be looking for. As I said, I think Van Persie was perfect for the job. Plenty of good strikers around the German league these days that I think could do the job.

Bayern Munich are more or less giving away Luca Toni for free. He is a tall bloke and has a good goal scoring record, but he is over 30, and Toni wants to go home.

Is a few million now when we are in a fight for 4th worth sacrificing over the prospect of missing the Champions League and the doom thereafter (would he even come to us if we were in the UEFA Cup?). Really like the player, he is one of those guys who is unspectacular but improves the players he plays with through his own graft. The type of guy we miss all over the park. Will never be prolific but as a squad player he would be truly excellent and could be a game changer as a substitute.
