*Official* English Football Season 2008-2009

International Coach
I dunno, would have been nice I suppose.

He announced that he wasn't retiring quite a long time before, early February IIRC, but he might've decided to call it a day on the spot had we won them both.

Have this horrible feeling i have James in goal for my fantasy team, can't imagine letting in 6 will mean positive points...

Wonder what would have happened since, had he not. Can't help but think you will have a post-Fergie slump, the same way Liverpool have had a post-Dalglish slump these last few years (but this is their year, mark my words )

Got to say that Berbatov, Rooney and Gary Neville were absolutely terrible for Man Utd today, wanted Man Utd to win, but Berbatov looked like he wasn't interested, Rooney was all over the shop, and Gary Neville was lucky he wasn't exposed on more occasions, that said, good point and a hard game out of the way.

Re: Fantasy League; thought I had an awful week, but logged in to check to see that I have done better than anyone else by quite a long way (barring Hakon) and am now ahead of Brumby, oh yeah, doesn't get much better than that, TOP OF THE LEAGUE.

Oh must say, fairly impressive with Comrad Neville's work today. If he takes inspiration on what Lizarazu in EURO 04 & Pannuci in EURO his international days as a full-back could still go on even at this ripe age.
Yeah the way he was exposed by Ballack, Anelka and Kalou on a number of occasions and looked totally lacking in match fitness suggests he would be well equipped to walk back into the national side.

Post-Fergie slump will depend entirely on who is appointed, I doubt Liverpool would have had their slump had they appointed more wisely than Souness who is a rubbish manager... there was no slump immediately post-Paisley because they appointed a couple of good managers before they appointed a dud.

Yeah, very true. Liverpool's success in the 70s and 80s wasn't based around just one manager in the same way United's had though, so I would say a fall is more likely. Ferguson manages the whole club from what I've read, you can't really say that about any other manager these days (Wenger, actually)

Shouldn't be a huge issue. Depends entirely on which young guns the new manager would be able to keep though.

He probably does now, I'm not sure he did last year, the influence of Quieroz was quite big IMO, although of course there's no way really of telling.

And the rest of the squad tbh, it's very much Wenger's team, would imagine he's the main reason players like Fabregas would want to stay.

Not in the short term, in the long term it would, because IMO only Wenger could have kept Arsenal as competitive as they have been on the money he has got.

Could probably say the same about United itbt, with your Scholes, Giggs etc. Though then again Ferguson was also the reason why the likes of Beckham & van Nistelrooy wanted to leave

What was Ferdinand getting his knickers in a twist for at the end of the match?
No idea, but he and Evans were probably the best players on the pitch imo, Chelsea probs would have won it were it not for Anelka missing from about 3 yards out and a lot of decent interventions by those two.
