Beckham gets England arse

From the Beeb.

It's fair enough IMHO. No-one has a divine right to play for England and all this cobblers about him deserving 100 caps as a right is very annoying. If Capello reckons his match-fitness isn't up to it I'd say he's got a point. Beckham might be fit, but given he hasn't played since Nov he can't be match-fit.

Not the most inspiring squad ever tho. We get Curtis Davies (8-)) by way of surprise pick & the tipped-to-be-included-by-everyone Agbonlahor as the other new blood. BFD. My gusset remains resolutely unmoistened.

I'd pick

Heskey - Owen
Young - Barry - Hargreaves - Gerrard - Cole
Upson - Ferdinand - Richards
Carson

Mainly because i love 3-5-2 more than any actual belief it's the best team. I stick by Heskey and Owen though.

It's all speculation, really, but I'd be a little surprised if we didn't have flat back four.

Owen's been picked on rep (& paucity of other options I suppose), because he's been gash since he returned from his latest injury.

They tried 3-5-2 against Croatia away and it failed miserably. Plus Young and Cole would have to cope with defensive duties as well.

Would go with...

Kirkland

Richards
Ferdinand
Woodgate
Bridge

Young
Barry
Gerrard
Cole

Heskey
Owen

Word out, but even when he is fit i reckon its going to be hard for him to force his way back into the national side with the likes of Bentley, Agbonlahor & even Cole again on the right. The reason why Beckham was needed so badly even when dropped after the WC is because England just couldn't get it moving in the middle of the park thus making Becks dead ball expertise became so important (although injuries to key players at crucial times had a big say as well). So if Capello can fix that jinx & with no major tournaments until WC 2010 even though it hurts me to say Becks won't be need on the right anymore.

Only way he can play for England for me is firstly he needs to play in England again on loan since i'm sure he can't leave LA Galaxy just like that (but i reckon deep down he is regretting it now) he would need to let his skills be tested in a quality league given his age although i feel he is good enough to lift when it comes to internationals given his success playing in two of the biggest clubs in the world.

Secondly he probably needs to redefine his role i.e maybe his brilliant passing skills could be utilised centrally or something. But his England career for me is hanging by a thin thread.

Not the most inspiring squad ever tho. We get Curtis Davies (8-)) by way of surprise pick & the tipped-to-be-included-by-everyone Agbonlahor as the other new blood. BFD. My gusset remains resolutely unmoistened.

What the big rush to get new blood in though?. At least Capello would have to see how the failed bunch play amongst him before they are dumped for good.

But otherwise i reckon he has picked the best possible 30-man squad on form in the country, although bit surprised about Davies being in his thinking but with Terry out ATM & other young defenders like Dawson looking horrible in a shocking spurs back-line this year & Taylor not playing much for Newcastle i reckon it makes sense & as a veteran in this buisness Mr.Capello probably see's something in Davies.

Although not a fan of Jenas gotta admit of late everytime i look at premiership highlights(given that i haven't even got much time to look at United play) & i see Spurs play Jenas has looked pretty good don't think i have ever seen him play better.

On the keepers selected, well i'm hoping his selection of James is influenced MAINLY by the fact that Almunia isn't qualified, Foster being injured for United & him wanting young Joe Hart to be amongst the under 21's ATM, since even though James is still solid between the sticks for Pompey i think its time to look past him. Good to see Kirkland back also although he is at a low club...

The seven i reckon will be axed are Davies, Shorey/Bridge, Jenas, Downing, Upson, Johnson/Brown (would rather Brown to be axed personally), SWP.

There isn't really, I suppose, especially if the options aren't there. I was just hoping that (like with Sven) he may've spotted potential in a few different players other than the obvious ones. It's about 8 months before we play a real game so now would be the time to experiment. I mean Sven threw in Chris Powell, Michael Ball & Gavin McCann into his first squad (there's a game of where are they now for you!). Only Powell seriously featured afterwards, but at least the thrill of the new gave us hope, however illusory & fleeting.

I'm going for Retired, certainly was at PSV probably at Sunderland now, someone like Coventry, although that feels about one or two leagues too high.

Yeah way off it turns out.

A Norwegian newspaper reports Erik Hagen is on his way to Wigan.

So that's both Norwegian national team centre backs signed to PL relegation candidates within the space of a week.

Fair play to Cappello over Beckham, IMHO. He chose to play in a saloon-bar league for money and career reasons (career other then football), he was then getting fit at the Arse and decided to swan off to Africa for a photo op. The blokes mind is not fully on football and we have years to the next tourney, he won't be involved.

He could of been if he'd stayed in Europe, he's a guy who never was the quickest and could play on to he's 40 really. He's chosen not to play in a proper league so it's his choice imho.

Anywhoo the best news for me is finally we may have seen the back of Phil Neville, I honestly believe if Maclaren had stayed in charge he'd of got 100 caps:blink:

Mind you nothing excites me about it, bunch of average players, who'll get average results.

More importantly ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE ANY SIGNINGS TISDALE8-)

no

We've signed Jefferson Louis, cool name, but his history seems rather prima donna. Lame.

I realise it's not hugely reputable but I was looking on wiki and it seems Sven has signed Benjani from Portsmouth....
Yes he has, and Redknapp has picked up Jermain Defoe, didn't expect that one! Middlesbrough have picked up Brazilian Alfsono Alves who has scored 45 goals in 38 games for Heerenveen. Still needs a clearance though for the transfer to go through.

Seems that it didn't happen in time:

wiki said:
Manchester City attempted transfer

The striker's recent form cemented Sven Goran Eriksson's interest in the player and, on 31 January 2008 he had a bid of £8m accepted for the transfer of the player. He undertook a medical and had a work permit granted, although the paperwork was not completed in time forcing the move to fall through, much to the delight of every Portsmouth fan.

What's with the Neville hate? Don't see how the MLS isn't a proper league. Quality isn't as high as in the top Euro leagues but you're making it sound like they have bo idea what they're doing and are worse than the J-League and whatnot.

Can't believe Robert Green didn't get a crack in goal. He's been superb for West Ham for two seasons now and fully deserves a shot in goal for England.

Regardless of whether Beckham is half-fit, or even a quarter-fit, he's hands down way better than any other option on the right-side of midfield IMO.

I reckon they'd want him to be keeping them out actually :p
