I said earlier in the thread that Englands game against Andorra was a total waste of time and made a mockery of international football. They simply are not good enough to be playing England and that is to excpected due to its tiny population. The fact those goals count as international goals is worse than someone scoring a first class century against a university.

Also Haakon, how do you think the format should be structured for world cup qualifying? You would have to have dvision of continents there (for the smaller countries at least) considering the distance to travel would be a bit impractical for the smaller countries?

indeed, its a joke, a total waste of time, and then you get the stupid BBC saying things like "oooh look like we can seriously challenge for honours now", obsurd.

I did read the piece a few hours back as well. I would say population shouldn't be the factor for the splitting. Maybe past performances in World Cups, Euros. Fifa rankings (no matter how crappy they are) can be taken as a starting point as well. Always find the topic interesting because of the reactions it generates.
Some countries just have too small a player base to ever qualify for any major tournament - that's purely based on population figures. But to force Kazakhstan - a team that obviously needs the experience, but has a population base of 14 million to draw from if the sport gets organised properly - into qualifiers because their current team is rather appalling is the wrong route to go down. If they were to be eliminated at such an early stage, football in the country would suffer because people will think that "oh, we're that awful, there's no point in us trying football."

Edit: World Cup qualifying should be fairly identical to what it is today (though with more places for Africa, but that's another debate). However, invite six minnows (add Luxembourg and Malta to the above list) to a mini-tournament in August, which can be rotated between the countries, have the six play off for the one spot in the qualifiers, and keep the current groups sized about 7 teams each.

So if Parker can stay injury free between now & Euro 2008 & becoming a goal-scoring mid-fielder (doesn't have to be of the Lampard class) to add to his other very good attributes, based on what i've seen of him in the past, McClaren would be crazy not to recall him.
So basically a lot of ifs and second guessings and he just about makes the top 10 or 11 midfielders...

I agree with the second point. The first - I would do it via fifa rankings etc where we would have the smaller nations still having to go through the qualifiers even though I see your point. Would lead to the same result either way.

I thought that was the case now?

Why else is the Kazakhastani government is virtually bankrolling a professional cycling team?

So why didn't you clear up the misunderstanding immediately it became apparent then?
WTF are you talking about you, only you and Pothas have read my comment and suddenly got your wires completely wrong. Also why should I clear up this ‘misunderstanding’ when you and silly ******** have jumped the gun and the misunderstanding is a complete failing on your part. Solely through your pedantic ways of always trying to correct people and always wanting to be right. Instead of actually reading what I typed, your eyes lit up at the prospect of another post and useless correction.

Just so we are sure, when do I say Barton is a convicted racist?

I like Joey Barton, poor man’s Stevie G but his all action and I like his directness. Off the field matters would go against him but if a convicted racist (Woodgate:thumbup: ) still harbours hopes of playing for England, why not Barton.
8-)

He's a hypocrite - he's always lecturing other people on the environment but he drives around in a huge great car.

Missed a home game for the first time in three years on Sat. And our bloody goalie scored. Typical.

Still, the whites are going up, and remember people, you really did hear it here first

Wow your hard, at least when I get on my high horse and feel the need to patronise morons such as yourself there is justification. Also I’m probably the first person on this forum to admit when I’m wrong, which with my sports predications is usually all the time. Unlike some people who give it all the talk and when their predication or premonition goes tit *** ****s off the forum for a few days…

Yet it was obvious there was a misunderstanding, because there were several posts where nobody knew who you were talking about.

Yes because such a comment ‘if a convicted racist (Woodgate) still harbours hopes of playing for England, why not Barton’ is completely and utterly baffling and makes one wonder that Woodgate is Barton and vice versa.

Except you didn't refer to Woodgate for a couple of days after the initial comment.
