So how many centre midfielders do you want to play at once then if you want all 4 of those to have a shot as well as Lampard?

Taylor is a good all round left-sided player no doubt wont mind seeing him in England colours along the left wing as back-up to Cole & Downing.

Isn't Taylor playing left back all the time though?

In all fairness Downing did a good job. Its a postion thats up for grabs and if he plays well this league season he good make it his own. Though it will be difficult to overtake Cole.

Any player who doesn't play regular first team football shouldn't be near an International squad.

He's certainly not slow, and the point is that he looks to take people on, which 70+ mins into a game can just about use up a full back's reserves.

TBF if you're English & play even semi-regularly for a top-12 Prem team you'll probably be looked at eventually. It's the way of things just now with non-nationals dominating our top flight.

If Steve Bruce played today, he'd still find it hard to get into the England team. For the last 20 years or so, England has been really strong in the CD department. But you could guarantee that Sven would have at least brought him on in a friendly amongst the mass substitutions to earn at the very least a single cap.

IIRC Ashley Cole's been taking it this year, acheiving an E i think, had some trouble answering "Who Am I : mercenary left back plagued by questions about his ***uality, marriage of convenience to popstar"
