Yea O'Neil should get a shot along with Nolan, Reo-coker, Barton also.
So how many centre midfielders do you want to play at once then if you want all 4 of those to have a shot as well as Lampard? 8-)

Taylor is a good all round left-sided player no doubt wont mind seeing him in England colours along the left wing as back-up to Cole & Downing.
Isn't Taylor playing left back all the time though?

Anyway they finally have a proper winger or wide midfield player on the left
I must have missed when they brought Peter Beagrie on

In all fairness Downing did a good job. Its a postion thats up for grabs and if he plays well this league season he good make it his own. Though it will be difficult to overtake Cole.

Any player who doesn't play regular first team football shouldn't be near an International squad.
Could not agree more. Increasingly caps are being devalued and caps should be earned through performances on a domestic level.

It was his best performance, but is it any coincidence that the Greek right back was absolutely shocking?

As for the position being up for grabs - in that case, who is dropped for Joe Cole?

Downing to play the Lennon role on the left IMO. We've got 0-30mins left, throw on a pacey winger.

except Downing's not really got that much pace
He's certainly not slow, and the point is that he looks to take people on, which 70+ mins into a game can just about use up a full back's reserves.

TBF if you're English & play even semi-regularly for a top-12 Prem team you'll probably be looked at eventually. It's the way of things just now with non-nationals dominating our top flight.

Back in the day players of the calibre of (say) Paul Davis & Steve Bruce failed to acquire a single cap in their long & illustrious careers.

If Steve Bruce played today, he'd still find it hard to get into the England team. For the last 20 years or so, England has been really strong in the CD department. But you could guarantee that Sven would have at least brought him on in a friendly amongst the mass substitutions to earn at the very least a single cap.

I would wager Steve Bruce is still a better player than Anthony Gardner.

IT. I don't think they do BTECs in "Arsenal players from 20 years ago."
IIRC Ashley Cole's been taking it this year, acheiving an E i think, had some trouble answering "Who Am I : mercenary left back plagued by questions about his ***uality, marriage of convenience to popstar"

So why not keep Joe Cole on then, he's just as good at taking them on!

Starting to tire by then? Who knows? lol. Would create a whole new problem for the already tiring right back as no two players play exactly the same.
