The performances of the team over the years may not show it, but really this is best group of players England have produced arguably since we last won a major championship, if you can be superb in leagues you should be able to the next level. England & Spain are two sides who just can't do that it seems.

He may not have scored for two years but his form hasn't been poor for two years, he was scoring for United all of last season its just since his injury prior to the WC that his form has been off now everyone is all over him, just like Lampard before the WC he could do no wrong.

Well that doesn't add up at all I'm afraid, in the seventies and Eighties, with predominantly british based players we won European comps every year, Notts Forest and Aston Villa even, won the European Cup.

The 1990 side had players who performed, in their career, in many different leauges. The media in this country is geared up to tell us everything is the best or worst its ever been, in-between doesn't make a good headline. "england quite good, may make quarters" or "England will win the world cup, best since 66" . Which headlines likely to sell more rags.

1 defeat in 5 years of qualifying and there were some tricky opponents in that time.

If there were a better option to replace him, he'd be dropped, but quite frankly there is nobody to replace him.

He's had 2 average games, most probably because he had that suspension at the start of the season so couldn't get himself into the right level of match fitness at the right time.

Yet as I mentioned before its our ravenous press that creates the expectations, then when the team crashes in their own vapid mediocrity, the press create villains like beckham, sven, ronaldo, various officials and most moronic fans follow blindly.
