well who?, the only possible left-sided player in Europe that United can get as Giggs long term replacement in the near future is Downing. Since the likes of Cole, Robben, Duff, Vincente etc are either higly unlikely or impossible.
Yes, that's the Duff who was available for transfer this very summer 8-)

Much as I admired Wallsend's Elbow King, Shearer was only ever an out-and-out centre forward. Henry's all-round game is infinitely superior. IIRC Henry has also managed to be the premiership's top goalscorer in the last three seasons, which when you consider he sets up as many again isn't too shabby a record really.

Two more points to consider: Sir Alan actually retired from the top level to concentrate on his flat track bullying &, I may have missed it, but when did he score a goal that knocked the reigning world champions out of the World Cup?

But Northerners club together plus he's English, Scaly will support him to the death...

got to say, some of the posts in the last 2-4 pages of this thread have been hilarious, whether it be from genuine humour, or complete and ignorant stupidity.

Alan Shearer, only won 1 PL title, only scored a fair few at international level. Didn't score many in France 98. Flat track bully then IMO.
He scored 2 goals from 4 games - perfectly reasonable.

A PL title where he managed to win so many games 1-0 for Blackburn, the sorts of games where chief goes missing and only turns up again when it's the likes of Sheffield United to flog. At that time Shearer was miles ahead of chief poseur at his peak because he'd score goals against difficult opposition at crucial times as well against the usual teams. Despite playing for England when he was a bit past it his international record at a time when England were mainly crap his record is still better than chief poseur's - especially if you take out the friendlies which Shearer wasn't too fussed with (he scored 9 out of 32 in those, so that leaves 21 out of 31 competitive games).

i could darg up Henry's record against the supposed decent sides from the last thread on this issue again to refute that point, but theres no point, as i'm sure you have some way of saying "those goals dont count" like usual anyway.

I don't check this thread that often and when I do I just read the last page. So I've not even read this chief poseur record against big 4 post.

It's easy to pick the big 4 over a certain period and include games where they were rubbish anyway, it doesn't change the fact that he's a flat track bully based on his international record, or the way he cost the CDMs the CL last season or the way he was poor against decent teams in the WC and he missed so many chances.
Yet you actually have him in your fantasy team.....baffling.

I have him because he's predictable - I can make him captain against the really useless teams and I know he'll get a goal and an assist at least. Lampard could get goals against anyone so I have him as captain the rest of the time.

Thing is, you can't actually do either of those things (in common with refuting that article)

Erm no, he's far from it.

Football didn't start in the 90s.
Well sorry but from my viewing of highlights of old English football I never heard any Argentinian like names.

And you had plenty of chances of signing two of them from a certain Serie B club.
Emerson and Vieira will be useless in a couple years. As will Senna but still could have been useful as a backup though. No club's pperfect and Man Utd did mess up in that regard to the holding midfiled position.
