he may well be, but in 5 years most of most sides midfields will be an irrelevance.Barney Rubble said:I think in five years's time, the rest of the Arsenal midfield is going to be an irrelevance anyway - Fabregas will be ruling the footy world by then.
Yeah. But maybe a penalty which Livepool should have had would have made it all worth whilesledger said:hardly suprising though is it ?
You're right. They'll all be playing 1-8-1 formation anyway, so whoever they do have in midfield won't be able to play any football.sledger said:he may well be, but in 5 years most of most sides midfields will be an irrelevance.
Does that really matter? As long he scores he's cool with me. Oh yeah. The penalty spot is outside the six yard box. There ya go!!Barney Rubble said:Well, he still hasn't scored a single goal for them from outside the penatly area, so I'd wager he hasn't scored too many from outside the six-yard box either.
That's just the type of striker he is, not all strikers have the ability of henry etc. You will find that the most prolific strikers - Ronaldo, Owen, Ruud, and going back Lineker, Puskas, Di Stefano scored 95% from 18yds and closer. That's just a fact of football. It's mainly because Ruud scores so many goals that people dissect him. Where a goal is scored is irrelevant in my book. If he's so predictable then that should be easy to defend, no??Neil Pickup said:I wonder how many have been from outside the six yard box?
You're dead right, but I can't help thinking one of the reasons football is getting dull these days is the "let's play one up front who just stands in the six yard box all day" style of play.twctopcat said:That's just the type of striker he is, not all strikers have the ability of henry etc. You will find that the most prolific strikers - Ronaldo, Owen, Ruud, and going back Lineker, Puskas, Di Stefano scored 95% from 18yds and closer. This is in no way a new phenomenon, and to be fair only a small majority actually score via this method. It's merely an attempt to mainain possession. It isn't as if footballers are technically incompetent nowadays and must resort to wimbledon tactics, it is the exact opposite. The sport has got so professional and there is so much to lose that its defence before attack. The quality is still there though, and to be honest i would prefer competent defences to goal fests as a result of dodgy defences.Barney Rubble said:You're dead right, but I can't help thinking one of the reasons football is getting dull these days is the "let's play one up front who just stands in the six yard box all day" style of play.
IIRC he went on a run of 18 straight penalties, then missed a few, and then has scored everything since then - that's not missing a fair few in my book.marc71178 said:He misses a fair few penalties though.
True - I'd rather have good defensive football played than poor attacking football.twctopcat said:This is in no way a new phenomenon, and to be fair only a small majority actually score via this method. At the end of the day though you can only play with what you've got on the pitch though, i'm sure if Mourinho had Henry, Ronaldinho and Adriano he would perhaps adjust his tactics!!!Barney Rubble said:True - I'd rather have good defensive football played than poor attacking football.
I just think it needs someone who plays really attacking football to do well this year and show the rest of the Premiership that you can succeed these days with that style of play - in an ideal world, Arsenal would win the Premiership and everyone would start copying them instead of Chelsea. But we all know that isn't going to happen.
oh....Craig said:I am starting to pass on watching matches involving English teams and the EPL. I would only go to won if I had won a free ticket or somebody was paying.
If Mourinho had Henry, Ronaldinho and Adriano, Didier Drogba would soon be finding a new career on Brighton Beach giving children a ride on his back.......twctopcat said:At the end of the day though you can only play with what you've got on the pitch though, i'm sure if Mourinho had Henry, Ronaldinho and Adriano he would perhaps adjust his tactics!!!
Since when has "donkey" been a racist insult? It's been thrown at Drogba a million times since he joined Chelsea.sledger said:lol, not rascist at all mate
