What else did Boro expect, they were an embarrassment not just the players but the fans, completely unmotivated tools. You are meant to make some sort of noise but what else do you expect from such fans. Probably was still in awe that they have been on a airplane, did you know that 75% of the population of the ‘beautiful’ city of Middlesbrough don’t have passports. Presumably because they are all seemingly so happy and content with life up north, they do say ignorance is best.

But seriously Boro’s luck run out against Basel and Bucharest but Sevilla were worthy champions. Played football the way it should be played and Jesus Navas looks like a real talent, been labelled the new Reyes but he seems far more direct and precise. Nevertheless McClaren’s inept game plan deserved nothing more than a beating. 4-0 may not be a fair reflection but Boro’s performances against Basel and Bucharest did not deserve progression also.
So does that mean Reyes is now past it?

Time to go to Bolton or Qatar now for you Jose Antonio

Well if Barcelona don't win the Champions League Final then they never will so he kind of had a point.
No, his comment was yet another xenophobic dig at Arsenal.

He said that there was no more English interest in Europe this season.

Incidentally, the Arsenal team next Wednesday will almost certainly feature Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell at some point if not starting.

Perhaps Scaly will tell us how many Englishmen played in Istanbul last May and why he didn't have the same attitude about Liverpool?

I did display the same apathy towards Liverpool in Europe. Hard luck.

Can anyone else gather why Scotland are playing an International friendly against Bulgaria on a Thursday morning. The mind does boggles, also no Dimitar Berbatov for Hristo Stoitchkov's men, must be in London finalising his deal to Spurs.

It's in Japan - the "Kirin Cup", between Scotland, Bulgaria and the hosts.
But why Scotland and Bulgaria?
Seems like someone put up a poster of the fifa team rankings and thew darts at it to select two teams...

marc71178 - why don't you put Scaly and Richard on ignore instead of debating every post they make?
Because it's always a good feeling to prove someone wrong. :)

I can only assume that no-one else wanted to come.

My apologises then that would explain the timing. I knew Bulgaria played and defeated Japan a couple of days ago in Japan but I just assumed they were now back in Europe. Very strange that any European team especially Bulgaria whose better players have just finished a tough gruelling season in decent domestic leagues would be scheduled to play abroad at this moment in time especially with their star player Valeri Bojinov still in action in Italy.

I did and it was great.

I was still able to take pot-shots at them yet they never replied to disagree so I must have been right every time (like they thought they always were) - it was like buying a one-way ticket to Smug City USA.

What's that you say? Sorry, can't hear you.

Bit harsh result for Middlesbrough. If Viduka had finished better as well could have been much different.
Maybe one goal too many in the end.

Sevilla bent them over. Middlesbrough lacked flair, imagination and defended poorly. It wasn't until Maccarone was introduced that Boro looked dangerous going forward, Sevilla soaked it up for 15-20 minutes and then put them away.

Viduka missed a sitter and had the penalty claim turned down, Rochemback tested the keeper from a long range free kick and Maccarone had that wayward cross that nearly went in but about from that they rarely threatened. Sevilla looked like they would score every time they went forward and must have had about 15-20 shots on goal in the end.

The Boro defence would either sit off and leave them with a free shot at goal or all go in at once and the Sevilla player would beat 4 of them in a phonebox and pass it off for another unmarked man to shoot. Schwarzer let two slip but then again Sevilla were running unchallenged at goal and shooting from close range. It was a bloodbath.
