Don't get me wrong, I rate Owen highly, but Fowler is so much a better natural finisher it's wrong to compare them.

From what I've seen, he was beginning to get back towards that level recently, maybe if he stays injury-free and gets a run in the team, who knows?
What a load of complete pap. Owen is a better finisher or natural finisher. Fowler is no more a natural finisher than CDMs' chief poseur is.

yeah well said.

Owen is a massive English talent. He is still so young.

Owen is a huge talent, he's never quite become the player I imagined he would be when he was 18 tho. He used to have terrible trouble with his hammys, so he bulked up a bit & that seems to have cost him half-a-yard of his pace. Still only 26 tho, TBF.

That said Fowler does have greater spatial awareness for me, I just think his body can't quite get him into the areas his mind sees so well anymore. He still looks a better partner for Crouch than Morientes tho. Morientes doesn't gamble enough for me, if you play with a big guy like Crouch a striker has to anticpate where the knock downs will go. Fowler does & he's been unlucky with a couple of offsides. It may be the different footballing philosophies of Spain & England being shown up.

My Champions league QF-Verdict

ARSENAL VS JUVENTUS:

I'd say Juventus will go through, they should be able to expose the inexperienced defense that the gunners currently have. Plus since the 1st leg is at highbury all Juve need is a goal & they will be in the driving seat going into the 2nd leg.

LYON VS AC MILAN:

Lyon have been playing well, but i pick AC to go through their defense will be too much for the french giants even more without Juninho for the 1st leg. But Lyon overall have a though road to win the title because even if they manage somehow to beat AC they still have to get past Barcelona..

BARCELONA VS BENFICA:

No disrespect to Benfica since they knocked out liverpool, but i have no doubt Barcelona will win this..

VILLAREAL VS INTER MILAN OR AJAX:

Villareal have been playing well over the last month or so. But if this stage if they have to play Ajax i'd tip them to qualify but if its Inter at this stage its too close to call.

I always used to think that Morientes was unlucky to be called worse than Raul.....but he's hardly done anything in the Premiership...
i agree, although neither are the player they were, both have tailed off horribly, although incidentily rauls performances began to drop off when morientes left the bernabeu...and morientes not long after.....a strange coincidence dont you think ?

that should make the relegation race more interesting, and i am gad for portsmouth they are my most local premiership side at the moment anyway so i hope they can turn things around.

:D Cheers for the support buddy - we need all we can get at the moment, it's still going to be very tough down there. At least now we've kept ourselves from slipping out of the hunt completely.

Facts of life mate. :p

Taxes, death and Pompey being doomed for relegation in season 05/06. Sorry to be the one to tell you...

A nice little reminder of traditional football today at Griffin park as 5 minuites before kick off the anouncer asked if any qualified referees were in the ground because they were in need of a 4th official. It was made all the better when Brentford won 3-1 to put them in a great position for automatic promotion.

And how much football from Fowler in his pomp have you watched?

If he's so bad how come almost every respected pundit recognises him as the best natural finisher?

Read whatever I said a month or so ago when you came up with that.

Fowler averages less than 0.5 goals a game - natural finishers would score more than that when given the clubs Fowler's been at (unless you mean he's a naturally bad finisher).

Coventry 2 Sheffield United 0.

How great a result is that?
The only drawback with that result is that it still (barely) allows Dirtyleeds a sniff of automatic promotion.

DCFC look to be easing away from the relegation zone - another good home win today (albeit only against Burnley, but 3-0 is 3-0). Terry Westley's style of play has been a breath of fresh air after the long ball rubbish of Phil Brown, and Pride Park is kicking again. All we need to do now is clear away some of the stink emanating from the parasites in the directors box. Has anyone got the odd 44 million quid to spare?

BOARD OUT, GADSBY IN!

Anything that ****es off Neil Warnock can only be a good thing.
Amen to that.

12 games without defeat at home, this season is turning out to be a bit of a superb one bearing in mind the constraints on Adams.
