Oh right, so lets award any slightly deflected goals or goals where the keeper has dropped a clanger as an own goal then shall we...
No, but when the ball deviates as much as it did then - and when it strikes the defender so soon after being kicked that it's impossible to tell whether or not it was going in to begin with - it shouldn't be given to the striker, because it wasn't their actions that were responsible for the goal, it was those of the defender.

If the keeper hadn't messed up, it would've been the defender's own goal.

As I hinted at earlier this does not hold up because then you'd give every goalkeeping error as an own goal because it was the keeper's actions that were responsible for the goal.

Not if it is a shot on target. But huge deflections are own goals..

Due to his drinking again apparently, although Gascoigne disputes this. V sad news, particularly in light of Best's recent demise.

The guy is the biggest idiot out there, I mean he was still trying to play on even though nobody didn't want him, even clubs in China didn't want him.

I did laugh at his attempt of revenage by trying to buy Kettering Town though.

Though he must be good at eating 50 sticky kebabs during his time at Nazio (sorry Lazio).

Yay! According to the co-efficient used we're the 2nd best team in the world!

We could end up in a group with Oz and T&T. That would be so cool. :)

We're almost bound to get Poland as well, we always do! :D
I hope England get Australia, just so England can thrash the living daylights out of them (or in reality Rooney scores to go 1-0 up and Sven immediately puts England into 8-1-1 formation, several scares and 85 minutes later England draw 1-1)

From what I can work out, the hardest group we could possibly end up with is England, Netherlands, Paraguay, South Korea, which I'd still back us to qualify from - the easiest is probably England, Switzerland, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago. I'd like that one. :D

Bit of a corker, was it? Lobbed your keeper from twenty-five yards?! :D
not quite, though i have scored a 35 yarder before, this was a solid right foot volley at the back post (i'm left footed) i'm blame the fact i've been playing up front all this season but was reverted to left mid for this game, think the strikers instinct just took over when the ball came to me .

Quite frankly, if we go out we deserve to go out. What the hell were we playing once we went 1-0 down?! For once I find myself agreeing with Gray rather than shouting 'Shut up you bald-headed Sweattie!', because he was spot on when saying we should have rammed the lead home.

Yes, but punching it in his own goal...
