Took a quick glance at the scoreboard from Taunton...

Somerset 339 for 3 (44 ovs)

Matt Wood 129 (105b, 13x4)
Ian Blackwell 114* (60b, 11x4, 5x6)
Tim Bresnan 9-0-87-1

Edit: Make that 340 for 4 - Blackwell b Blain 114 (72m, 61b, 11x4, 5x6)

I was going to go to Taunton today, looks like there were some fireworks from Blackwell again. However, I'd rather stay at home and watch real batsmen on TV.

Looks like they played on another of those tarmac pitches...

Heh. Yorkshire made 343 and still lost - must come close to a record for total in a NL game (not counting the 400+ joke in the C & G cup between Surrey and someone)

Hampshire having too fight back again from 200-7 and in real danger of not getting the follow on they fought back with Pothas 75 not out and Bichel another great score with 88. Kent then came out looking too score fast i assume and finished the day with 152-7 with a lead of about 270 but kemp still at the crease. Sets up a great final day in which all 3 results are possible

Tarmac? Try sheet metal. Or glass. It's been years since Taunton produced a pitch with any seam or spin.

I don't know why bowlers move there - Johnson, S Francis etc. If I were Somerset I'd just cut my losses and play 11 batsmen. :p

Yea I'm sure he's taken a few 5-fers that resemble the one McGrath picked up today...
You're sure he's taken a few 5-fers? That's a pretty bold statement to make, hope you can back it up......... :p

what a game between Yorksh*te & Somerset at taunton, Somerset barely holding out to win by 2 runs. I dunno we all have seen Blackwell fail for England but his one wonders if he could have translated his big hitting to the international arena more often he would be the perfect ODI player...

One does wonder. One also has to admit that if Blackwell did make a success of himself, every international side in the world would crap themselves at the thought of Pietersen, Flintoff, Blackwell at 4, 5, 6 in the order, with Collingwood to come after them as the finisher.

I hate to be the one brave enough to say it, but maybe Blackwell deserves one (and only one) more chance this winter? The amount of chances Solanki's had having only succeeded sporadically, I wouldn't bet against a Blackie recall if he continues this form, espeically with the ball.

yea i would second for Blackwell to get one more chance this winter & Mascarenhas to come in since i reckon Gough's career is pretty much over now: Now & England ODI side of:

Tres
Strauss
Vaughan
Pietersen
Flintoff
Collingwood
Blackwell
Jones
Mascarenhas
Harmison
Jones

Mouthwatering i say :D

I saw Mascarenhas bowl for the first time the other day. Someone please explain to me how 70mph dobbers are supposed to cause any International batsmen any issues?

Blackwell's had his chance - we don't need to go the India route and constantly have problems with finding a fifth bowler when there's Flintoff around. Gilo will do me nicely.

And I'd pick Tremlett over Mascarenhas any day.

Wasn't that what got GD McGrath 5/115 today? :p
