Leaning having a seriously good season isn't he, enjoyed watching him at Scarborough last year.

Utterly awful from Hampshire, Overton going to be in a test squad soon.

No alarms in the end for Essex, they kept Ryder back to no. 7 and he and Westley saw them home.

Five down at Derby - hopefully the weather will behave tomorrow and we wrap it up before lunch.

Yorkshire's fourth-wicket partnership now more than Notts' total. Ton up for Leaning.

Think this is his 3rd ton of the year. So odd to think he might not play if Root could.

And at least it was the good Overton.

Surrey claiming the extra half hour - Derby losing their seventh with an over to go did for them.

And they wrap it up on the stroke of seven with one ball left to play. The way Footitt was swinging at the end I don't think he wanted to come back tomorrow. :D

I think it's just because I remember that gave v Warwickshire a couple of years ago where Jamie bowled well. He's also quicker than Craig and not as good a batsman. I always imagined if anyone was going to emerge as a test class bowler it'd be him.

tbf you're probably still right; Jamie's pace -- even if he lacks consistency right now -- could well make him more of a threat at Test level than Craig.

Jamie > Craig in Tests, Craig > Jamie in FC could well be the way we look back at things, if both get the opportunities at the top level.

Leaning has dominated for my local grade club's U/21s team over the past two years, and was pretty useful in First Grade as well. I think he's done quite a bit of work with Phil Jaques and, by virtue of playing for Sutherland, Steve Rixon over the past couple of years.

Ecb and Yorkshire just making up the rules now. How Bairstow can join a match in the 3rd day when he played for England the previous day is beyond me. ECB making a mockery of the championship.

Middlesex should sub in Finn this afternoon (day 4) of their game with Worcester if they are having a bowl.

When you are left with James Middlebrook as your sole spinner due to international callups then you can complain

Also picked up 84 runs at better than a run a ball after his team collapsed twice. The sort of match to bear in mind when Broad takes 2-95 in a test this summer and people start saying they should drop him for whoever's doing well in county cricket

Yeah you can quibble about whether it says more about Broad or about the county bowlers, but the gap between Broad and the next best English fast bowler (except maybe Wood) is... large.

Yeah it became pretty apparent last summer that even the 3rd seamers we were playing in tests were miles behind Broad. Calling for Broad to be dropped every second test series is an important English cricket convention though.

Yeah, someone like Woakes for example is roughly only as good as Bad Broad. Once you take into account Broad's ability to randomly be awesome every so often, he really shouldn't ever be dropped, even if you put Anderson and Wood ahead of him.
