***Official*** English Domestic Season 2014

Handy start for Magoffin for Sussex today. 2 overs, 2 maidens, 0-3. Good effort. Northants 1/3 after 4. Willey to save the day with a ton.

Lees/Lyth continuing to plunder, they've got to be worth a look if the batting continues to be suspect. Lyth could comfortably play in the middle order given how good a stroke player he is.

Which middle order players should be dropped then, seeing as 3 of the 4 have scored tons in the last month and the other one is probably England's best batsman?

Nah give Root the captaincy, last bloke form the Steel city to hold it didn't do so badly.

In fact sod it lets just play Yorks XI as our test team.

That the Gloucester one?
That's right yes, very round-arm.

Gary Wilson declares with himself on 97 at Colwyn Bay; I'm not sure they should have batted on so long today - I hope someone was checking the weather forecast - but having done so, surely another over wouldn't have made any difference.

Plenty of rain about - again - several matches have already finished for the day, while Glamorgan are putting up stout resistance in North Wales.

Anyone know about this Thomas Moore playing for Essex? He's playing his fourth consecutive Championship game, and Cricinfo doesn't know what he bowls yet - although, at 22, he's also improbably listed as 'umpire.' And Essex under-14s as one of his 'major teams.'

Meh, "if the batting continues to be suspect". Clearly not calling for it right away.
The thing is the worst thing they can do to the middle order now is dump one of them as they've all made a decent start, so I wouldn't say that it is "suspect".

imo Northants - and county cricket - could currently use a player of trent copeland's skill

Could be a nail-biter at Colwyn Bay - seven down now, but Glamorgan are ahead. Another hour's batting might be enough.

Getting concerned about Surrey now, very poor performance from us against Gloucestershire and Abbott is off to Sri Lanka soon. Got a game in hand but we really need to win it for me to start relaxing again.

Thought it was going to be a lot tougher than that tbh, especially when Glamorgan were 350-odd for 5. Some odd batting from the tail helped though. Cosker was stumped, and Hogan, the number 11 was confident enough to take a 2 from the second ball of an over. Cooke must have been fuming when he got out a couple of balls later.

We'll know tomorrow how we're placed - Leics v Kent could be a good one - but I don't want us to go back up unless we're ready. Otherwise a strong third would represent a good season. What's been satisfying is how much has been down to young guys like Ansari and Dunn - the much-vaunted imports haven't made that much impact.

Yeah I really liked the look of Dunn when I saw him last week.

Please wait for next year though, Hampshire really need to go up this year.

Surprisingly easy for Kent in the end - it really does seem to have been the year of the chase. Northeast who got a ton may have been lucky to be playing at all on his form up to now.

Tight at the top now, but how can Surrey have played 12 matches out of 16 before the middle of July?

Good effort from the hitherto unsuccessful Nic Browne to be on the field for the whole Essex vs. Derbyshire match. I did not expect that.
