No mention on Surrey’s website about what happened there, so hopefully it isn’t serious. If Nel’s gone they are truly ****ed. When is Ramps (and Butcher) coming back?Oh I'm sure Surrey will take him back, the way things are going. Bowled out for 131 I see, but at least we've got Derby seven down. Who's injured though - Nel, Jordan or Dernbach? All have unfinished overs on the scorecard.
Just a shame he got out to a complete pie, said he just had to hit the ball, it was that wide and short. Ashwell also said that Jimmy bowled very well, swung the ball both ways at a lively pace with great control.Good fightback by Chilton and Croft, gets us back in the game. Nice to see Prince get a few on his CC debut, great for Chilton to get runs in his best spot and Croft has been in awful form in recent weeks really so great for him as well.
great attitude, certain England players could take a leaf out of Prince's book“When I arrived Peter asked me what position I prefer. I said ‘Look, for most of my career I have batted at number five in Test matches, but I have opened before too’. I would prefer number four if I had a choice, but I have told him I am happy between number one to number five. Wherever they want to use me, I am happy. I have always put the team first. Wherever they want me, I will try and do the best I can.”
Funny thing is I'm fairly sure Read is actually a better long-form batsman than Jones (there's absolutely no doubt he's better in the shorter game)... but I never thought that once between 2004 and 2006.Read 125, Geraint Jones 103...what's the world coming to?
I have a great idea...let's have an England wicket keeper debate!
Read's pretty okay, I reckon he could have done a good job for us if handled properly. He just didn't fit in with Fletcher's ideas. And he had that unfortunate incident ducking the full ball that everyone remembers.Funny thing is I'm fairly sure Read is actually a better long-form batsman than Jones (there's absolutely no doubt he's better in the shorter game)... but I never thought that once between 2004 and 2006.
Ramps may have been a better player if he would have waited for selection. He was selected when he was a dick and carried a huge ego and chip on his shoulder. He wasnt capable of handling the pressure or failure and the handling didnt help.Read just doesn't cut it mentally. He would have been rubbish regardless of how he was handled. Same with Ian Bell, same with Mark Ramprakash.
Yea because he was so much more mature and composed when he was trying to get his 100th hundred wasn't he...Ramps may have been a better player if he would have waited for selection. He was selected when he was a dick and carried a huge ego and chip on his shoulder. He wasnt capable of handling the pressure or failure and the handling didnt help.
If he had been allowed to mature before playing then he may have had a chance.
