Your comments about imports are interesting when you consider that Durham regularly field sides including various permutations of Benkenstein, Breese, Thorp, Lewis, Gibson and Maher.

And who's the second Lancashire bowling "import"? Keedy who played a sum total of 1 game for Yorkshire?
he's referring to Sussex

I see our biggest problem being a lack of class in the opening partnership, we too often lose early wickets or if we don't we struggle to score at a decent rate, putting pressure on Loye and Law. With Hodge set to return i'd like us to sign an opener and move chilton down to 5. Maybe Chris Gayle after the Windies tour finishes. This would give us another spinning option as well.

Gayle
Sutcliffe
Loye
Law
Chilton
Sutton
Chapple
Cork
Smith
Mahmood/Anderson
Keedy
Word out, at the top is missing a touch of class, but i doubt whether we may get Gayle given that the windies will be here next year. If Hodge does come back we could send Loye up to open & Hodge to bat @ #4, i'd also like to see Symonds back as well. Then again we have a side capable of dominating the county circuit, just have to win something.

The comments about Lancashire's batting is a bit harsh seeing as we have more batting bonus points than anyone.

I'm suprised we haven't got as many bowling points seeing as how well we've bowled this season.

I don't think Sussex are a better side than Lancashire this year, we beat them in 2 days in the championship and beat them again at their place didn't we?

I've been realy impressed with the young bowlers Lancashire have got coming through the system which should hold us in good stead for a long time to come.

eh? constant rain and your down. you need to pray for a result in the Durham-Yorks game and it ain't going to happen, they just played long enough for Durham to get the bonus point needed to send you down.
Yeah, did not think that one through... I forgot about the amount of points you get for a draw aswell as bonus points.... either way were down, and its bring on the Derbyshire

As bleak as it is, its not over yet. Durham Bowled for 518, need 159 to make Yorkshire bat again, and the last four wickets, on what seemed to be a batting paradise, went for 12 runs. So there is at least one last piece of hope for us.

Also, can some one clear this up for me, did Mark Pettini just score the fastest first-class 100? I know he scored 114 off 29, yes, thats 114 off 29, is that some sort of record?

No, it will be disregarded in the record-books, because he scored it off declaration bowling.

Not true.

Glen Chapple has the fastest championship 100(before this anyway) against relegation bowling and it's still counted.

I think.

Not really, they've 3 bowlers (2 of whom are imports) who took virtually all of the wickets at a very good average
One of the imports played less than half the games, so hardly that they could rely on him.

That aside, how many bowlers should be taking all the wickets?

Most sides only play 4 frontliners.

Exactly, he played less than half the games and he still took more wickets than the rest bar two - one of which took nearly half the wickets Sussex got in County Championship. I was dispelling the theory that Sussex had a strong, solid squad - they don't. They have some exceptional performers and some barely average plodders - so a strong first team due to the stars but not a solid squad. Due to the English game having a quality wrist-spinner and one good seamer is virtually all you need to bowl sides out unfortunately, unfortunately for Lancashire particularly.

As for Durham... woohoo. Nice to see Park doing well also, he looks about twelve from a distance but bowls 80mph and in particular is a good batsman and he played for my local club most of this season.

I just find it unbelievable that Worcs went up today, after losing so much time to rain i really expected to day to just end in a boring draw and for Essex to go up. SO HAPPY! :p

Any chance of surviving in division one when Roger Sillence and Kabir Ali opens the bowling, and Vikram Solanki and a 41-year-old is the mainstay of the batting? :p

Ah well, hopefully Samit Patel can flourish against 'lesser' players... Such as Panesar, Gough, Simon Jones, Jon Lewis, Stuart Broad, Jamie Dalrymple, Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Strauss etc, grante dthey'll be missing for ahlf the season, but you get my point

Strange events at the Rose bowl today. Chilton as his usual conservative nature wanted to make sure Lancs couldn't lose the match, said he was going to declare after lunch but changed his mind when Warne went through his routine of bowling bouncers and the like. Warne furious.

Personally, I'm not a fan at all of Chilton's captaincy (or much of a fan of him as player either, even though he did go to my school) and i was very annoyed at his decision not to enforce the follow on, I was extremely surprised(and somewhat dissapointed) at the decision not to declare today but i do think Shane Warne acts like a complete phallus in these situations, bowling 6 bouncers and over and getting his wicketkeeper to bowl and the like, just because opposition captains don't do what he wants.

So how come they won so many games then?

Bowling attack wise there's no contest between the 2 - the best Lancashire regular bowler averaged 28 or so...
