Mags adds 4 wickets to his 90, personally thought he was on his last legs as a cricketer tbh.

Yorkshire have asked Leic to follow on, 331 behind, makes sense with it being the end of the day

Reece takes the last two to end up with 10 in the match. Leeds/Bradford MCCU win by 79 runs. Sussex might want to seek some advice from Durham on how to become a first class side.
Tbf the side used in that scorecard looks distinctly like a 2nd XI (maybe 3rd XI with a couple of 17 year olds in there), still a disgrace though.

Shahzad's bowling average 33
Mags' BA 35.

Not much in it and Mags can bat a bit more than him too :D
There's apiece on cricinfo where Graves has explained why they let Shahzad go. Obviously it's only one person's side of things, but interesting nonetheless.

One thing I do agree with Graves on, is Shahzad's seemingly unwillingness to bowl to any team plans, or his inflexibility as a bowler. I said it countless times on here last year, he just seemed to be out there bowling as fast as he could without too much thought behind it. During which more often than not he completely lost control of the ball and bowled far too many poor deliveries, which obviously takes the pressure off the opposition, when the other bowlers had been bowling tight and to a plan . I know it was something the Coaches kept working with him on but when game time came, he couldn't seem to help himself.

Shahzad always seemed to me that he thought he was some kind of tearaway quick bowling 95mph, where he could just out do County batsmen for speed and speed alone. In reality he's a mid to late 80's bowler who will get smashed all day by County batsmen if he doesn't put some thought into what he's doing. In 2009/10 he did start to think more about what he was trying to do to get batsmen out and he got the results from it, that lead to his England selection.

Yeah he moved down to seven (and probably should've slipped down even further when Bresnan joined the team again, really) and stopped bowling; definitely seemed like the end was near. Always liked him though so I'm happy to be wrong.

Yeah, yeah, not a first class match and not the Sussex first team either

Anyway enjoy it while it lasts son.

Notts making a much better fist of it second time around against Notts, buoyed by the lack of overs bowled by Jimmy Anderson due to illness. Lancs would have hoped a similar bug would have done for Andre Adams before the start of today, once again the reliable seamer ripped through another County line-up claiming seven wickets in an innings for the first time in his career. This game really has matched up two outstanding bowlers, in Chapple and Adams, that I'm sure would still trouble a Test side despite their advancing years.

An unlikely position of strength then for Notts after their first day catastrophe. England watch saw Stuart Broad someway from his best by all accounts, but it is his first proper bowl for some time. Swann managed three wickets, no surprise Ashwell Prince offered little resistance against him, and Samit Patel is once again trying to impose himself on the game with another vital innings in the second dig, he's 21 not out overnight.

Ian Bell completed a much needed century at Edgbaston in another shortened day. He'll be hoping Keith Barker, Jeetan Patel and Chris Wright keep him company for long enough for Warks to build on their current lead of 32 runs and make it into something more substantial against Durham.

A good all-round bowling performance from Yorkshire (Ajmal who ?) sees them in complete control against Leicester. Rolled over for 116 then they lost Greg Smith very early in the second innings means that only the weather can save them now. Jonny Bairstow went on to make a big hundred - 182 - with Anthony McGrath falling ten short of his 34th first-class ton. I agree with a few that posted in this thread earlier, I thought we had seen the decline of McGrath before the inevitable slip into 2nd XI cricket and beyond, but fair play he doesn't seem ready for that yet and it says much about his dedication and appetite that at 36 he can still deliver with bat and ball, however Leicester do appear one of the weakest sides on the circuit.

The only other game that saw some action was at Derby where Gloucester have got themselves into a bit of a hole with one of county cricket's most underrated bowlers, Tony Palladino, picking up a five-for. Kane Williamson will no doubt add some quality to Gloucester, but he could only muster 25 today, and the visitors trail by 216 runs with only one first-innings wicket left.

Good to see Matt Machan get some runs for Sussex. Anyone know where he is in the pecking order currently?
Saw him make a very good hundred for North Otago during the (brief) Hawke Cup defence last year. Doesn't seem to be close to first team cricket though, and to be honest apart from that ton wasn't amazing in the Oamaru grade comp when he played.

I was a member of that team actually. It was indeed a very good hundred.

Yeah he always looked like scoring runs and was clearly a very classy player but seemed to play a few too many injudicious shots. Decent bloke to boot.

Was that 2010/11? He played in Melbourne in 2011/12, well, up until Christmas and then he had to go home for a Sussex pre-season trip, I believe. Did alright here, few scores.

They (Dandenong CC, yeah, the mob with Siddle and the Pattinsons) got Liam Dawson over after that.

Yup that's right. Didn't get many on that pre-season trip to the Caribbean though.

I think he got 3, possibly 4, tons when he was over here. Probably should have got quite a few more tbh.

Funny thing is that Shazad really didnt have to look too far for his inspiration as the Yorkshire coach was lightning fast in his early days (far quicker than him, I'd suggest) but learnt that it wasnt the be all and end all of fast bowling

Leicestershire are a sorry sight, no batsman averaging over 40 in FC, only one batsman averaging over 35 (Sarwan), two guys average sub 30 and the rest average lows 30s. Three of them are 23 or under mind but what’s Boyce’s excuse? 26, 67 FC games for the county, averages 27. But if you think that is bad, take a look at Glamorgan where only two guys average over 30.

Bell dropped for the 3rd time by Colly in the slips. Was dropped on Day 1 right before the close as well.

Northants also have a pretty rank top order, especially as Sales' best days are long behind him.

Compensated by having a good lower order mind. Was a time last year where there number 9 scored more runs than all their top six put together.

Claydon takes out Bell.
