Notts making a much better fist of it second time around against Notts, buoyed by the lack of overs bowled by Jimmy Anderson due to illness. Lancs would have hoped a similar bug would have done for Andre Adams before the start of today, once again the reliable seamer ripped through another County line-up claiming seven wickets in an innings for the first time in his career. This game really has matched up two outstanding bowlers, in Chapple and Adams, that I'm sure would still trouble a Test side despite their advancing years.
An unlikely position of strength then for Notts after their first day catastrophe. England watch saw Stuart Broad someway from his best by all accounts, but it is his first proper bowl for some time. Swann managed three wickets, no surprise Ashwell Prince offered little resistance against him, and Samit Patel is once again trying to impose himself on the game with another vital innings in the second dig, he's 21 not out overnight.
Ian Bell completed a much needed century at Edgbaston in another shortened day. He'll be hoping Keith Barker, Jeetan Patel and Chris Wright keep him company for long enough for Warks to build on their current lead of 32 runs and make it into something more substantial against Durham.
A good all-round bowling performance from Yorkshire (Ajmal who ?) sees them in complete control against Leicester. Rolled over for 116 then they lost Greg Smith very early in the second innings means that only the weather can save them now. Jonny Bairstow went on to make a big hundred - 182 - with Anthony McGrath falling ten short of his 34th first-class ton. I agree with a few that posted in this thread earlier, I thought we had seen the decline of McGrath before the inevitable slip into 2nd XI cricket and beyond, but fair play he doesn't seem ready for that yet and it says much about his dedication and appetite that at 36 he can still deliver with bat and ball, however Leicester do appear one of the weakest sides on the circuit.
The only other game that saw some action was at Derby where Gloucester have got themselves into a bit of a hole with one of county cricket's most underrated bowlers, Tony Palladino, picking up a five-for. Kane Williamson will no doubt add some quality to Gloucester, but he could only muster 25 today, and the visitors trail by 216 runs with only one first-innings wicket left.
